PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Deep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deep comes to the cage accompanied by blood theme. King has chosen These Fighting Words as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darren King!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Deep shoots in for a takedown but King shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
King tries to close the distance and clinch but Deep swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Deep fails with a takedown attempt.

Deep drives through with a takedown into guard.
King has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Deep has passed into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
King can't do much from the bottom here.
Deep in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
King wants to control but Deep postures up.
King tries to bench press Deep off him but Deep keeps the position.
Deep remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

King tries to clinch but Deep moves out of range.

Deep decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Deep is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Deep takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
King is refusing to be controlled, as Deep sits in half guard.

Deep looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks King with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Deep tries to bum rush King with a series of wild strikes but King uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
King scores with a nice head shot.
King turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
King digs a good hook to Deep's body.
King misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Deep tries for a takedown but King sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
King might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Deep kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
King lands with some strikes.
Deep is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Deep on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Deep tries to get out of the position.
King can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Deep is looking to escape.
Matt Deep overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Deep bucks King off and manages to get back to his feet!
Matt Deep is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Deep takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
King shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Deep as he avoids it easily.

King gets caught flat footed, as Deep shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
King will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Deep keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
King prevents Deep from improving his position.
Deep is looking to get back to full guard here but King has managed to pass to side control instead.
