PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Monkey Work (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dzhabrail Kuriev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Work kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Down - On March th saints. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Monkey Work!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dzhabrail Kuriev!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Illya Tyunina and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kuriev defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Work.

Kuriev closes the distance and clinches.
Work drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kuriev pulls his leg out and moves away.

Kuriev shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ground and pound from Kuriev.
Work might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kuriev is trying to control the action in half guard but Work is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Work makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Work.

Work could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Kuriev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Work swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Work is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kuriev is controlling him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Work is looking for a sweep. Kuriev is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Work is breathing heavily.

Kuriev seems to be looking for submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kuriev avoids the attempt from Work to control.

Kuriev stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Work gets the takedown into side control.
Kuriev tries to improve position but can't.
Work tries to advance to mount but can't.
Work trying to control the position but Kuriev is working away.
Kuriev wants to control but Work postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Kuriev shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kuriev was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

and Kuriev counters with a nice double leg into side control. Work won't be happy with that.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Dzhabrail Kuriev is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kuriev changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Work looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Well Kuriev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
