Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Philip Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Philip Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Martin!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.

Martin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Martin drives through with a takedown into guard.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Martin defends well.
Jones doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head.

Martin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martin throws and elbow that misses. Jones uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Martin's guard. Nice move by Jones!

Jones avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones wants to control from the top but Martin keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Martin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jones defends well.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Martin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jones passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Martin moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Martin controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Martin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jones is one step ahead there.
Martin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Martin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jones works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Martin makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Martin with a flurry of punches that miss.

Martin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jones dives on top into guard.

Martin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Martin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Martin jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Martin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jones staying out of range there.

Jones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Martin is in close to Jones's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Martin's guard.

Martin looking for subs off his back but Jones has passed one foot through into half guard.
Jones prevents Martin from improving his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Martin won't allow Jones to pass to mount.
Martin is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Martin's head.
Martin gets back to full guard.
Martin throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Martin connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Jones misses with a wild combination.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Martin connects with the punch.
Jones tries to clinch up.
Jones lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Jones throws a nice looking combination but Martin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Martin.
Martin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Martin somewhat.
Jones looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Some wild striking there from Martin.
Martin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A left lands for Martin.

and Martin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Martin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jones doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Martin.
Nice strikes from Martin there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Martin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jones defends it well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Martin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Martin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Jones swings for the body but Martin moves out of range.
Jones leaves Martin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Martin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Martin misses with a two punch combination.
Martin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jones was well out of range. Poor timing from Martin.
Martin scores with a jab.
A slow jab from Martin misses its intended target.
Jones slips a jab from Martin.
Martin lands a nice looking body shot.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jones uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Martin.
Martin fails to land with a series of punches.
Martin connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Jones tumbling to the canvas! Martin pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Jones was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Mike Martin!
