PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ray Hardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Trumbley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hardy comes to the cage accompanied by I shot the Sheriff. Rob Trumbley is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ray Hardy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rob Trumbley!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hardy fails in his attempt to clinch.

Hardy fails with a takedown attempt.

Hardy looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Trumbley!
Trumbley is looking to improve his position but Hardy isn't that keen on the idea.
Hardy is looking to work his way around to Trumbley's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Trumbley can't escape the position.
Hardy is looking to stand but Hardy has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

Hardy stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Trumbley tries to land a front kick but Hardy steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Hardy tries to close the distance and clinch but Trumbley swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hardy shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Trumbley as he jumps to the side.
Trumbley keeps the fight on the outside.

Trumbley lands with a straight right. Hardy didn't see that one coming.
Hardy blocks a jab.
Trumbley scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Ray Hardy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hardy fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hardy shoots for a double leg takedown but Trumbley sprawls well. He's pushed Hardy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ray Hardy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hardy darts in and clinches Trumbley up against the cage.
Trumbley wants a takedown but no success here.
Hardy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hardy tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Trumbley just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hardy is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Trumbley gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Hardy breaks from the clinch.
Hardy tries to close the distance and clinch but Trumbley swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Trumbley wants to slow Hardy down by chopping away at his legs.

Hardy clinches with his opponent.
Hardy tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Hardy with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
A bit of stalling here from Hardy.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hardy.
Hardy wants to break free but Trumbley has control.
Hardy throws a knee to the head but misses.

Hardy gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Trumbley regains guard.
Hardy is breathing heavily.
Hardy preventing the sweep.
Trumbley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hardy manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trumbley thows a big elbow that misses.
Hardy can't keep his opponent in guard - Trumbley advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Trumbley prevents Hardy from standing back up.
Trumbley keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trumbley not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Trumbley connects with a nice short shot to Hardy's temple.
Trumbley throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Trumbley thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hardy wants to control but Trumbley is keeping busy.
Trumbley is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Trumbley missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Trumbley sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Hardy defending well though.
Trumbley has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Trumbley circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hardy is looking to clinch.
Hardy showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Trumbley.
Hardy tries to clinch there but Trumbley circles away.
Trumbley throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hardy tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hardy fails with the takedown.
Trumbley swats away the attempt to clinch by Hardy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Trumbley scores with a one two! Hardy had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Hardy wants to clinch.
Hardy blocks the body kick.
Trumbley throws a front kick that sends Hardy stumbling back into the cage.
Trumbley slaps away a takedown attempt from Hardy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hardy looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Trumbley changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hardy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Hardy gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rob Trumbley will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hardy doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Trumbley counter with a right hand.
Trumbley throws and low kick but Hardy moves out of range easily.
Hardy darts in trying to clinch

and Trumbley counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Hardy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hardy.
Trumbley throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hardy works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Trumbley stops Hardy from standing up.
Trumbley slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hardy sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Hardy is looking for a sweep. Trumbley is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hardy blocking the ground and pound attempt from Trumbley.
Hardy wants to improve his position but Trumbley is controlling well.
Trumbley working over Hardy with some ground and pound. Hardy looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hardy is trying to get back to full guard.
Trumbley uses his free foot to push down on Hardy's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hardy.

Trumbley is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hardy has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hardy!

Trumbley is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Hardy rolls with it to try and escape but Trumbley cranks on the arm and Hardy is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rob Trumbley!
