PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roman Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danger Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Owens's entrance music is Disturbed- Inside the Fire. A fine choice. The key to victory for Roman Owens has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roman Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danger Joe!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owens fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Owens pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A head kick by Joe misses
and Owens counters with a nice uppercut.
Joe circles away from the clinch attempt.
Owens throws a wild body kick that Joe sees coming a mile off.
Joe misses with a right hand
and Owens counters with a solid body kick.
Owens tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Joe swivels and escapes.
Owens thows a left - swing and a miss!
Joe thows a body shot but no joy.
Joe throws a one two combo.
Owens swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Joe misses with a head kick.
Joe works Owens's body with a nice hook.
Joe throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Joe moves out of range of the body kick from Owens.
Owens tries to clinch up but Joe circles away and keeps his distance.

Joe changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Owens looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Owens wants to get back to his feet but Joe drags him back down.

Joe has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Owens throws a series of punches but Joe avoids them all with ease.
Owens is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Owens works over Joe's head and body with a nice combination.
Joe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Danger Joe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Owens misses with a double jab
and Owens takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Joe lands with a nice combination. Owens backs away looking to recover.
Owens tries to bum rush Joe with a series of wild strikes but Joe uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Owens lands with a kick to the temple. Joe shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Owens digs a good body shot into Joe's ribs.
Joe throws a combination that misses

and Owens counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Joe manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Joe shoots in and bounces Owens off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Owens is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Owens wants to stand but Joe is controlling the position.
Owens is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Joe trying to control the position from guard on top but Owens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Joe passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Joe passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Owens!

Joe is working for a guillotine from mount but Owens frees his head quite easily.
Owens trying desperately to get to his feet.
Owens is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Owens gets back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Owens is trying to stand back up but Joe is controlling him
Owens knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Joe on the ground.
Joe wants to control but Owens is keeping him busy.
Joe thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Owens's head.
Joe wants to take a breather but Owens is having none of it.

Joe is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Owens doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Joe.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Owens looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Joe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Joe decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Danga de danga de dang - Owens scores with a four punch combination!
Owens misses with a double jab
and Joe counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Joe crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Owens - the referee stops the clock and Joe gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Owens. Joe manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Joe tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Owens swivels and escapes.

Joe scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Owens tries to get to full guard but Joe has control of the leg.

Joe drops an elbow to the side of Owens's head.

Joe seems to be looking for submissions.
Joe working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Owens's thigh. Owens counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Joe prevents Owens from getting back to his feet.
Owens trying to control the position.
Joe trying to control the position from guard on top but Owens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Joe stands and steps away. Owens gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
A thudding body kick lands there by Owens!

Owens shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roman Owens will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A left and a right from Owens both land. Nice combination.
Owens throws a head kick but Joe moves out of range.

Joe fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Owens, pushing him back against the cage.
Owens has Joe pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Joe manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Owens tries to pull guard but Joe holds him up against the cage and eventually Owens drops back down to his feet.

Joe is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Owens pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Owens breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Joe fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Owens drives through and clinches with Joe against the cage.
Owens wants to stall.
Owens tries a knee to the head but Joe blocks it.
Joe wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Owens tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roman Owens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Owens escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Owens shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Joe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Joe slips a jab and a cross from Owens.
Owens throws a right and a left that both miss.
Joe tries to clinch up but Owens circles away and keeps his distance.
Joe dodges the punch combination from Owens.
Owens lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Joe backs up against the cage.


Joe is rocked!
Owens fails with the takedown

and Joe counters with a single leg into guard. Owens didn't expect that.
Joe is still in real trouble! Can Owens finish him?
Danger Joe has got the better of the ground game so far.
Joe won't allow Owens to sweep him here.
Joe is looking to stand up but Owens won't let him.
Joe seems to have recovered his senses.
Owens is looking to stand up but Joe isn't so interested in that idea.

Joe stands up and waves to Owens to follow him.
Owens scores with a spinning back kick!
Joe misses with a takedown attempt
and Owens counters with a one-two to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Joe looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Joe lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Owens backs up against the cage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Joe.
Owens looks to land a body kick but Joe moved away.
Owens throws a good cross that connects.
Joe throws a body kick the misses

and Owens holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Owens breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Owens misses with a few strikes there.
Joe tries to clinch
and Owens counters with a head kick.
Roman Owens is winning the standup battle so far.
Nice takedown defense from Owens. No joy for Joe on that attempt.

and Joe counters with a series of strikes. Owens will be more careful next time no doubt.

Owens has closed the distance and engaged Joe in a clinch.
Owens wants a takedown.

Joe is trying to trip Owens. He has hold of a leg but Owens is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Joe persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Owens looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Joe drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Owens manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Joe has Owens in his guard.
Joe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Owens wants to stand but Joe is controlling his posture from full guard.

Joe scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Owens takes the fight into the clinch.

Owens looking for a guillotine here but Joe defends easily.

Owens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Joe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Owens shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Roman Owens will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Owens falls off balance throwing a combination
and Joe counters with a three punch combo that has Owens backing up. Owens nods at Joe to acknowledge the strikes.

Owens clinches.
Owens using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Joe has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Owens goes for a takedown attempt but Joe pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Joe throws a right and a left that Owens avoids nicely.
Owens gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Joe counters by clinching up.
Joe wants a takedown but no success here.
Owens landing knees to the body.

Owens pulls guard successfully.

Joe gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Owens avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Joe throws a head kick that misses.
Joe misses with a hook. Owens ducked under it nicely.
Owens throws a right and a left that Joe avoids nicely.
Joe fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Joe takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Joe throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Owens lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Roman Owens is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Joe moves in looking to clinch but Owens pushes him off.
Owens doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Joe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Owens won't be happy with that.

Joe is looking to take a break and control but Owens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Owens closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Owens lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Owens stands and throws Joe's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Joe is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Owens off and has taken his back!

Joe is punishing Owens with strikes - can he finish him?!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

You can see the frustration on Owens's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Danger Joe.
I think Owens has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
