The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McAlister throws a lazy right hand but Eklund sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Eklund shoots in but McAlister avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Eklund misses with a two punch combination.

Eklund darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Eklund throwing shots but McAlister is blocking nicely.
The fighters are battling for position here. McAlister manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
McAlister lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Eklund!

McAlister jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Eklund manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Eklund wants to escape the position.
McAlister throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Eklund is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if McAlister gets his way!

I really don't envy Eklund right now.
McAlister has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Eklund is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by McAlister.
McAlister is hanging on to Eklund's back as he tries to escape.
Eklund breaks McAlister's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Eklund really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McAlister. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Eklund has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Eklund there as he acknowledges the shot.

McAlister is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McAlister is looking for a triangle but Eklund pushes his legs off easily.
Eklund postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Eklund throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McAlister works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Eklund must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Eklund accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McAlister is looking to stand up but Eklund isn't so interested in that idea.
Eklund trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
McAlister bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Eklund's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McAlister wants to control from the top but Eklund keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Eklund can do anything to dispel that myth.

Eklund takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
McAlister throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

McAlister looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Eklund shoots in and drives through. McAlister sprawls well.
McAlister looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
McAlister misses with a looping right.

and McAlister counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Eklund shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mike McAlister has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Per Eklund.
Eklund is breathing heavily.
McAlister lands with a nice body punch.
Eklund moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
McAlister cracks Eklund with an open hand slap.

Eklund ducks right into an uppercut from McAlister.


It looks like Per Eklund has been cut.
