PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Martti Aho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamal Quik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quik has chosen Three 6 Mafia - I Got as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jamal Quik told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Martti Aho!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jamal Quik!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Aho misses its intended target.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Aho, as that shot connected.
Aho tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Quik was well out of range. Poor timing from Aho.
Aho swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Quik clinches.
Quik keeps control of Aho as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Quik lands an elbow just above Aho 's eye.


It looks like Martti Aho has been cut.
Aho can't break the clinch.

Quik manages to break the clinch.
Aho throws an overhand right that lands on Quik's shoulder, as Quik tries to avoid the shot.

Quik closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Quik lands a nice elbow.
Aho on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Aho tries to break the clinch but Quik is controlling the position.
Quik using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Quik will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Aho up against the cage.
Quik unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Aho on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Quik tries to land knees in the clinch but Aho avoids the damage to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aho tries to circle away but Quik has him pinned against the cage.
Quik misses with an elbow over the top.
Aho tries to break the clinch but Quik is controlling the position.
Aho blocks the elbow strike.

Quik breaks the clinch.
Quik showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Aho.
Aho misses with a two punch combination.
Aho lands with a right hand.
Quik connects with a crisp jab.
Quik fails to land the takedown.
Quik thumps Aho with a low kick.
A slapping leg kick lands for Quik.
Aho misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Quik.
Quik tries to clinch but Aho moves out of range.
Aho looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Aho misses with a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Aho throws a right hand that Quik ducks under and follows up with a left that Quik also avoids with ease.

Quik moves into the clinch.
Aho blocks an elbow strike.
Quik pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Quik is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Quik has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Aho avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Quik has Aho pressed against the cage.
Aho dodges an elbow strike from Quik.
Aho on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Quik tries to land knees in the clinch but Aho avoids the damage to the body.
Quik misses with an elbow strike.
Aho blocks an elbow strike.
Aho dodges an elbow strike from Quik.
Aho has had enough of the clinch but Quik keeps him there for the moment.

Quik pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Aho misses with a few strikes there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quik uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Aho.
Aho scores with a sloppy right hand. Quik should have avoided that one.
Aho throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Aho misses with a wild combination.
Quik takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Aho fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Martti Aho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Quik buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Quik.
Martti Aho is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Aho fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Aho is breathing heavily.

Quik darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Aho pushes Quik off looking to stand but Quik dives back in and keeps control.
Aho has hold of Quik's hands but Quik slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Quik looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Quik trying to control from half guard but Aho is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quik prevents Aho from standing back up.
Aho blocking the ground and pound attempt from Quik.
Aho keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Quik tries to pass the half guard into mount. Aho knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Quik shoots in for a double leg but Aho sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Martti Aho has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jamal Quik.
Quik displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Aho throws out the jab.
Quik chopping away at his opponent's legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamal Quik dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Martti Aho's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Quik has Aho up against the cage in a clinch.

Quik manages to break the clinch.
Quik tries to clinch there but Aho circles away.
Nice jab there from Aho.


Quik is rocked!
Aho cracks Quik with a left hook right on the temple and Quik goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Aho lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Quik is OK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Martti Aho!
Martti Aho retains his welterweight title!
