PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Corpus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Flair (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corpus comes to the cage accompanied by Dream Theater - Overture 1928. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brock Flair!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flair doesn't manage to clinch there - Corpus circles away.

Flair looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Flair wanted to stand there but Corpus had control of the position.
Flair won't allow Corpus to get back to his feet.
Corpus could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Corpus is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Flair wants to stand and escape but instead Corpus has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Corpus drops back looking for a leg! Flair is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Flair manages to kick Corpus off! Corpus jumps back into Flair's guard.
Flair looking to hit a scissor sweep but Corpus is one step ahead there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Flair shoots in for a takedown but Corpus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Corpus shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Flair napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Corpus is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Flair will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Corpus wants to control but Flair is keeping him busy.
Flair wants to control but Corpus postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Flair is trying to improve his position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

It looks like John Corpus has been cut.

Flair drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Corpus looking to hit a scissor sweep but Flair is one step ahead there.

Flair wants to pass the guard but Corpus is keeping the position.
Flair trying to control the position from guard on top but Corpus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd cheers as Flair lands an impressive looking overhand right. Corpus doesn't seem phased though.

Flair changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Corpus looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Flair trying to control the position but Corpus is working away.
Corpus might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Corpus is breathing heavily.
Flair is trying to move to mount but Corpus reverses beautifully and ends up in Flair's guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Flair throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Flair shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Corpus defends it nicely.
Flair tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Corpus rushes Flair and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Flair tries for a takedown but Corpus manages to get underhooks.
Corpus lands with a left to the head.
Flair wants to get back to striking at distance but Corpus won't allow it.

Corpus is trying to trip Flair. He has hold of a leg but Flair is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Corpus persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Flair is trying to control the position but Corpus postures up.
Corpus won't allow Flair to sweep him here.
Flair not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Flair can do anything to dispel that myth.
Flair is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Corpus stops Flair from standing up.
Corpus passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Flair trying to control from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Corpus fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Flair manages to avoid it.
Corpus looks to land a combination. Flair sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Corpus can't do much from the bottom here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Flair controls the position.

Flair tries for a kimura but Corpus is defending well.
Flair working away.

Flair stands up.
Flair shoots in looking for a takedown. Corpus tries to sprawl out of it but Flair keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Corpus manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
John Corpus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brock Flair.
Flair tries to clinch but Corpus is having none of it.

Flair doesn't manage to clinch there - Corpus circles away.
Flair looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Corpus is fending him off so far but Flair persists. Nope, Corpus circles away and we're back to standing.

Flair closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Corpus desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Flair is thwarting Corpus's attempts to control the position.
Flair is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flair lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Flair wants to get back to his feet.
Flair stops Corpus from getting back to his feet.
Flair sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Corpus is staying active underneath Flair, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brock Flair showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Flair looks to clinch

and Corpus holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Flair goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Corpus tries to land knees in the clinch but Flair avoids the damage to the body.

Corpus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Flair shoots in for a double leg but Corpus sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Corpus throws a sloppy head kick and Flair moves out of range easily.
Corpus shoots and misses

and Flair counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Corpus keeping full guard, as Flair tries to pass.

Corpus manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Flair tries to work over Corpus's front leg with a kick but Corpus checks it.
Corpus throws the left hand but Flair avoids the punch easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Corpus misses with a takedown

and Flair counters with a shoot takedown. Corpus fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Flair sitting in guard here, content to control.

Flair's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Flair distracts Corpus with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Flair is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Flair looking to pass the guard.
Flair lands a couple of digs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Flair trying to control but Corpus is working from the bottom.
Flair stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Corpus swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Corpus gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Flair counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Flair.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Corpus. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Flair wants to stand but Corpus has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Corpus controls Flair momentarily but Flair frees himself.
Flair controls from within his opponent's guard.
Flair wants to control from the top but Corpus keeps moving.
Corpus keeping full guard, as Flair tries to pass.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Flair is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Flair controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Flair connects with a couple of short punches.
Flair tries to stand but Corpus is controlling from the bottom.
Flair stays in close to Corpus's body and controls the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brock Flair comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Flair winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
