PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Randaberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Petri Pakkanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pakkanen has chosen Loost Koos - Pakkasta as his entrance music. Petri Pakkanen is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Ricky Randaberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Petri Pakkanen!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Steven Brown and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pakkanen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Pakkanen wants to work for an arm triangle but Randaberg is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Well, if Pakkanen is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Pakkanen working over Randaberg with some ground and pound. Randaberg looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Pakkanen slows the pace down in half guard.

Pakkanen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Pakkanen is stalling here. Randaberg is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Pakkanen seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Randaberg has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Pakkanen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Pakkanen manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Pakkanen winds up and cracks Randaberg with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pakkanen in particular looking to stall.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pakkanen connects with a nice short shot to Randaberg's temple.
Pakkanen lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Pakkanen is keen to just control but Randaberg is a slippery customer.

Randaberg tries to get to full guard but Pakkanen has control of the leg.

Pakkanen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Pakkanen throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Pakkanen landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Pakkanen performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pakkanen is keen to just control but Randaberg is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Petri Pakkanen dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Pakkanen feints and as Randaberg raises his hands in defense, Pakkanen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Pakkanen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Randaberg has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pakkanen has managed to get both his arms back between Randaberg's legs - danger averted.

Pakkanen postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Pakkanen wants to control from the top but Randaberg keeps moving.

Despite being in the dominant position, Petri Pakkanen just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pakkanen slips a straight right by Randaberg.
Pakkanen dives in and grabs Randaberg's left leg, looking for a takedown. Randaberg pushes down on Pakkanen's head and hops out.

Randaberg waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Pakkanen.
Pakkanen moves out of range of the strikes.

Pakkanen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Randaberg is letting Pakkanen control him for a moment.
Pakkanen throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Pakkanen is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Randaberg's shoulder. That is not cool.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pakkanen is trying to ground and pound but Randaberg uses the momentary lack of control by Pakkanen to regain half guard.

Randaberg is refusing to be controlled, as Pakkanen sits in half guard.

Pakkanen wants to take a breather but Randaberg is having none of it.

Petri Pakkanen has got the better of the ground game so far.

Pakkanen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Randaberg keeping moving, preventing Pakkanen from controlling successfully.
Pakkanen wants to pass the guard but Randaberg is keeping the position.

Pakkanen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pakkanen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pakkanen shoots in looking for a takedown. Randaberg tries to sprawl out of it but Pakkanen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Randaberg manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Randaberg throws a hook but Pakkanen avoids it easily.
Pakkanen shoots in for a double leg but Randaberg sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ricky Randaberg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Petri Pakkanen.
Randaberg pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Nice sprawl there from Randaberg as Pakkanen shoots in.
Pakkanen is breathing heavily.
Randaberg lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Pakkanen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Pakkanen takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pakkanen.
Randaberg thuds his right hand into Pakkanen's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Randaberg connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Randaberg clobbers Pakkanen with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Randaberg ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Pakkanen takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Randaberg throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricky Randaberg dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Randaberg missing with a left hand there. Pakkanen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Randaberg lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Randaberg cracks Pakkanen with a right hand to the side of the head.
Randaberg throws a jab but it's blocked by Pakkanen.
Randaberg looks to land a left hand but Pakkanen moved out of range nicely.
Randaberg is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Randaberg connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Pakkanen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Randaberg manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Pakkanen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Randaberg is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pakkanen defends well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pakkanen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Randaberg is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Randaberg keeping moving, preventing Pakkanen from controlling successfully.

Pakkanen works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Pakkanen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Randaberg struggling a bit here.
Pakkanen scores with a couple of short elbows.

Pakkanen is looking to take a break and control but Randaberg is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pakkanen tries to score with some ground and pound. Randaberg controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Pakkanen working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Pakkanen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Randaberg keeps working.

Petri Pakkanen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pakkanen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
