PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between E Unit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mickey Avalon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avalon has chosen Mickey Avalon - Mr. Right as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, E Unit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mickey Avalon!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Unit as Avalon shoots in.
The fight stays on the outside here - Unit looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Avalon looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Unit looks like he's trying to stand up.

Avalon is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Unit doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Avalon.
Unit tries to roll over but Avalon keeps him under control.
Unit really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Avalon blocks the strikes from Unit.
Avalon working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Avalon throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Avalon is trying to work for a kimura but Unit is defending well.

Unit is looking to control Avalon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Unit avoid being mounted?
Avalon has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Unit is defending against the submission attempts here by Avalon.
Unit is trying to stand back up but Avalon is controlling him
Avalon scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Unit landing small, sideways elbows.

Avalon is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Unit sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Unit misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Avalon blocks the strikes from Unit.
Unit is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Avalon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Avalon's back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Avalon is really stuck here.
Unit lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Unit keeps control of the position as Avalon tries to break free.
Avalon looks gassed!
Avalon is trapped and Unit is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Unit scores with punches to the body.

Unit patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Avalon is trying to break free.
Avalon wants to control his opponent's hands but Unit gets his hands free.
Unit gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Avalon breaks Unit's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Avalon trying to control but Unit is working from the bottom.

Unit working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Avalon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Avalon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Unit wants to stand up but Avalon is controlling him.
Unit is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Avalon throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Unit works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Unit wants to sweep here but Avalon controlling him for the moment.

Avalon decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Unit tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Avalon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Avalon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Unit but Unit pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Unit is looking to clinch but Avalon is avoiding it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Unit shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Avalon counters by clinching up.
Unit drops down looking for an ankle pick but Avalon pulls his leg out and moves away.
Unit clinches but Avalon breaks the clinch

and Avalon counters with a shoot takedown. Unit fights it but they end up in guard.
Unit working a defensive guard here.
Avalon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Unit pushes Avalon off and gets back to his feet.
Unit's corner calls for a 1-2. Unit obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Unit fails with an attempt to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mickey Avalon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Avalon circles away from the clinch attempt

and Avalon counters with a nice double leg into side control. Unit won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Avalon lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Unit down.

Avalon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Unit tries to escape but Avalon is in control.
Avalon has knee on belly momentarily but Unit bucks him off and regains half guard.
Unit moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Mickey Avalon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Avalon is breathing heavily.
Unit is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Unit tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Avalon wants to pass the guard but Unit is keeping the position.

Unit pushes Avalon off and gets back to his feet.
Avalon throws a right and a left that both miss.
E Unit is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Unit tries to clinch but Avalon moves away
and Avalon counters with a two punch combo.
Unit leaves Avalon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Unit gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Unit breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Unit drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Avalon can't do much from the bottom here.
Unit lands a few punches from side control.

Unit stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Unit drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Avalon working for a triangle but Unit defends it easily.
Unit with a nice head shot there.
Unit scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Unit wanted to stand there but Avalon had control of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Unit drops back looking for a leg! Avalon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Avalon manages to kick Unit off! Unit jumps back into Avalon's guard.
Unit trying to control the position from guard on top but Avalon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Avalon tries to strike from the bottom.
Unit has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Avalon is proving hard to escape from.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Avalon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Unit is trying to defend but Avalon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Unit loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Avalon hold on?
Avalon tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Avalon is desperately trying to improve his position but Unit has a good base and remains in mount.
Avalon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Unit looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Avalon tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that E Unit will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Unit feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Avalon looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Avalon tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Unit gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Unit closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Avalon jumps guard but Unit stands there with Avalon around his waist. Avalon gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Unit with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Unit lands an elbow that stopped Avalon in his tracks for a moment.

Unit manages to break the clinch.
Unit lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Avalon backs up against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Unit darts in trying to clinch

and Avalon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Unit has a closed guard, preventing Avalon from standing up.
Unit working a defensive guard here.

Unit scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Unit tries to clinch up

and Avalon counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Unit's guard now.
Unit wants to stand and escape but Avalon is having none of it.
Avalon scoring with punches to the head and body.

Avalon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Avalon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Unit is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Unit wants to sweep but no luck.
Avalon tries to free his leg and advance position but Unit is retaining full guard.
Avalon trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Avalon wants to pass the guard but Unit is keeping the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Unit tries to clinch but Avalon is having none of it.
Unit doesn't manage to clinch there - Avalon circles away.

Avalon avoids the elbow strike from Unit, against the cage.
Unit lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Unit pressing his opponent against the cage.

Unit softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Unit lands an elbow that stopped Avalon in his tracks for a moment.
Unit lands a left hand.

Unit has hold of one of Avalon's legs. Avalon is fighting the takedown attempt but Unit gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Avalon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Unit content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Unit wants to control from the top but Avalon keeps moving.
Unit stands up over Avalon, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Unit postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Avalon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Unit is aware though and is defending well.
Avalon keeping moving, preventing Unit from controlling successfully.

Unit makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Unit has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Avalon is proving hard to escape from.

Avalon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Unit is aware though and is defending well.
Unit wanted to stand there but Avalon had control of the position.
Unit postures up in Avalon's guard and throws a big left but Avalon blocks it.
Unit throws a big right hand that misses.
Unit wanted to stand there but Avalon had control of the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Avalon has his feet on Unit's thighs here. He's pushed Unit off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Unit screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mickey Avalon!
