PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nate McGeady (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drew Carpenter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGeady comes to the ring accompanied by Joe Esposito - You're the Best Around. Carpenter has chosen Midnight Rider as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. On his way into the ring it seems that Nate McGeady has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Nate McGeady seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Drew Carpenter!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGeady tries to clinch but Carpenter moves out of range.
Carpenter throws a leg kick that misses.
McGeady moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Carpenter connects with a solid leg kick.
Good work by McGeady as he checks the leg kick.
Carpenter motions for McGeady to come forward. Carpenter throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
McGeady lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
McGeady moves into range and connects with a jab.
McGeady is looking to clinch.

Carpenter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. McGeady did well to prevent Carpenter getting side control.
Carpenter thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing McGeady to regain full guard.

Carpenter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in McGeady's guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
McGeady is pressed up against the ropes. Carpenter has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McGeady down to the mat. McGeady avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Nate McGeady has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Drew Carpenter.

You get the feeling that McGeady really doesn't like being in this position too much.

McGeady takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Carpenter pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carpenter is landing with some decent strikes but McGeady is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Carpenter won't let McGeady get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Carpenter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


McGeady tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Carpenter feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to McGeady's calf.
McGeady moves in looking to clinch but Carpenter pushes him off.
Carpenter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McGeady manages to avoid it.
McGeady stalks Carpenter and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Carpenter's face. Carpenter staggers backwards, shaken.
Carpenter misses with a takedown attempt - McGeady sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
McGeady throws a series of punches but Carpenter avoids them all with ease.

McGeady looks to score with a jab to the body but Carpenter is just out of range.

Carpenter has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McGeady finds it's way round the side to connect with Carpenter's head.

Carpenter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McGeady sprawls well initially but Carpenter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Carpenter lands a nice short elbow.
Carpenter is trying to control. McGeady wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Carpenter winds up and cracks McGeady with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

McGeady clobbers Carpenter with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
