The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Maples but Maples pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Paul tries to clinch there but Maples circles away.
Maples is looking to clinch but Paul is avoiding it.
Maples will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Paul gets a takedown into half guard.
Paul wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maples keeps working.
Maples is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Paul has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Paul connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Paul can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Maples is looking to escape.
Maples really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Paul. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Paul looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Maples tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paul tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Paul looking to finish Maples with some ground and pound. This is bad for Maples!
Paul looking to control but Maples is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Paul throwing strikes here but Maples is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Paul throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Maples blocking the ground and pound.

Paul tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Paul working for a guillotine from mount but Maples is in no mood to give up.
Paul can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Maples is looking to escape.
Paul swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Maples is now in Paul's guard. A big mistake from Paul there, giving up the dominant position!
Paul working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Maples doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Maples manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Maples postures up in Paul's guard and throws a big left but Paul blocks it.
Paul has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Maples doesn't defend quickly enough and Paul has managed to lock this one up! Can Maples escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Paul on a fantastic submission victory.
