PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sergei Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Otto Sigmunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emelianenko comes to the cage accompanied by Led Zeppelin: Kashmir. Sigmunt has chosen Mein Teil as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergei Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Otto Sigmunt!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sigmunt shoots for a takedown but Emelianenko saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sigmunt fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Emelianenko manages to avoid it.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Sigmunt throws a hook but Emelianenko avoids it easily.
Emelianenko is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sigmunt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Emelianenko fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Sergei Emelianenko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Sigmunt will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Otto Sigmunt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Emelianenko takes the fight into the clinch.
Sigmunt drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Emelianenko gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Emelianenko tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Sigmunt tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sigmunt tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Emelianenko smiles and moves away.
Sigmunt avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Emelianenko counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Sergei Emelianenko has been cut.

Emelianenko takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Horrible takedown by Sigmunt or perhaps it was just good defense by Emelianenko which made him look bad.

Sigmunt has Emelianenko up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sergei Emelianenko will probably get the nod.

Emelianenko keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sigmunt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Emelianenko, pushing him back against the cage.
Sigmunt drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sergei Emelianenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Otto Sigmunt.

Sigmunt tightens his grip and picks Emelianenko up, before dumping him to the ground. Emelianenko manages to land in guard.
Emelianenko wants to stand up but Sigmunt is controlling him.

Emelianenko wants to get back to his feet but Sigmunt is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sigmunt slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Emelianenko is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Sigmunt off and has taken his back!
Will Emelianenko go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Sigmunt wants to control his opponent's hands but Emelianenko gets his hands free.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Emelianenko controlling the positon.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Emelianenko controlling well, preventing Sigmunt from escaping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Otto Sigmunt will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Sigmunt uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Emelianenko.
Emelianenko connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Emelianenko is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Emelianenko avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

and Sigmunt takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sergei Emelianenko showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Emelianenko has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
