PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mikko Hantunen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raymond Wannis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hantunen kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bad Religion - American Jesus. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikko Hantunen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Raymond Wannis!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hantunen scoring well with a low kick there.
Wannis tries to clinch there but Hantunen circles away.
Wannis fails in his attempt to clinch.
Wannis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hantunen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
No joy there for Hantunen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hantunen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hantunen keeps the fight on the outside.
Wannis should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Hantunen tries to land a leg kick but Wannis saw it coming and moves away.
Hantunen lands a lovely overhand right.
Hantunen lunges at Wannis with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Wannis's hand.

Hantunen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hantunen controlling the action here.
Wannis missing with punches from the bottom.
Hantunen wants to free his trapped foot but Wannis is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Wannis is looking for a sweep. Hantunen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hantunen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Hantunen content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Wannis flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Well, if Hantunen is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Wannis wants to improve his position but Hantunen is controlling well.
Wannis trying to control but Hantunen postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wannis is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hantunen slips a nice elbow through Wannis's hands, connecting with Wannis's forehead.
Hantunen is thwarting Wannis's attempts to control the position.
Hantunen scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Wannis trying to control but Hantunen postures up.
Wannis might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hantunen kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Hantunen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Wannis wants to get back to his feet.
Hantunen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wannis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Hantunen slips a nice elbow through Wannis's hands, connecting with Wannis's forehead.

Wannis is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hantunen pulls his head out easily.
Hantunen not doing much here.
Wannis trying to control from the bottom.
Wannis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hantunen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hantunen's back!
Hantunen looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hantunen manages to reverse the position and now he's in Wannis's guard. Nice work there by Hantunen.
Hantunen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wannis controls Hantunen momentarily but Hantunen frees himself.

Wannis working for submissions but it's allowed Hantunen to get to half guard.
Wannis wants to get back to full guard.
Wannis is trying to stand back up but Hantunen is controlling him
Hantunen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Wannis wants to control but Hantunen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Wannis wants to improve his position but Hantunen is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mikko Hantunen dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Hantunen closes the distance and clinches.
Hantunen avoids the elbow strike from Wannis, against the cage.
Wannis throws an elbow that misses.
Wannis throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Hantunen lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Wannis trying to land knees to the body.
Hantunen wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Wannis has him pressed against the cage.
Hantunen working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Hantunen lands with a left to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Still in the clinch, Hantunen scores with a nice short uppercut.
Wannis's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Wannis can't find room to land a body shot as Hantunen controls the action.
Hantunen blocks the elbow strike.
Wannis throws an elbow but it's blocked.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wannis is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Wannis. Hantunen does a little dance to reset his feet.
A left and a right from Hantunen both land. Nice combination.
Wannis tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Hantunen counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Wannis clinches but Hantunen breaks the clinch

and Hantunen counters with a crisp right hand that drops Wannis! Hantunen lets Wannis back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Wannis is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wannis tries to clinch but Hantunen moves away
and Hantunen counters with a right hand from hell and Wannis is out cold! A vicious knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mikko Hantunen!
