PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ken Watts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kendrell Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson has chosen 2-Pac (Hit Em Up) as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ken Watts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kendrell Johnson!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watts misses with a few strikes there.

Johnson gets a takedown into half guard.
Watts on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Johnson thows a huge punch but Watts dodges it nicely.

Watts tries to roll over but Johnson keeps him under control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Johnson dives in and grabs Watts's left leg, looking for a takedown. Watts pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out.

Watts decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Watts wants to advance to full mount but Johnson doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson wants to stand up but Watts is controlling him.

Watts drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Johnson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Watts has Johnson in his guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Watts tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Watts manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Watts is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Johnson has managed to free his arm - good work.
Watts is breathing heavily.

Watts is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Johnson!
Johnson has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Watts is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Johnson knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Johnson for a finish.
Johnson breaks Watts's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Johnson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Watts has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johnson has managed to get both his arms back between Watts's legs - danger averted.

Watts is trying to control the position but Johnson postures up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Watts is desperately trying to improve his position but Johnson has a good base and remains in mount.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Watts is working to get back to half guard.
Johnson lands a big elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson prevents Watts from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kendrell Johnson will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Ken Watts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Johnson cracks Watts with a solid left hand.
Johnson postures up.
Watts manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.
