PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Kilgore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Peart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peart has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. James Kilgore has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Kilgore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Terry Peart!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peart wants to clinch up but Kilgore keeps it at a distance.
Kilgore tries to score a power double leg takedown but Peart sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kilgore somewhat.
Peart tries to clinch but Kilgore moves out of range.
Peart throws a leg kick but Kilgore moved away.
Peart tries to clinch there but Kilgore circles away.
Peart looks gassed!
Kilgore lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Kilgore closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Peart to the mat! Peart manages to get full guard.

Kilgore has gone for a leg lock! Peart slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kilgore's guard.

Kilgore working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Peart doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Peart manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Peart wants to control from the top but Kilgore keeps moving.

Kilgore wants to sweep here but Peart controlling him for the moment.

Peart got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kilgore has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Peart has managed to get both his arms back between Kilgore's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Peart looking to pass the guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Kilgore gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kilgore drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Peart gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Kilgore jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Peart walks away with a smile on his face. Kilgore gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Kilgore. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kilgore moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Peart misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kilgore shoots for a double leg takedown but Peart sprawls well. He's pushed Kilgore's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kilgore is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Peart clinches.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Kilgore wants a takedown.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Peart creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Kilgore drops down looking for an ankle pick but Peart pulls his leg out and moves away.
Peart looks to land a body kick but Kilgore moved away.
Nice sprawl there from Peart as Kilgore shoots in.
Peart tries a head kick but it misses.
Nice takedown defense from Peart. No joy for Kilgore on that attempt.

Kilgore is looking for a triangle but Peart pushes his legs off easily.
Peart is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Peart postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Peart wants to pass the guard but Kilgore is keeping the position.
Peart trying to control but Kilgore is working from the bottom.
Peart looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Kilgore will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kilgore shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Peart sprawls well. Peart wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kilgore gets slowly back to his feet.

Kilgore throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Peart's waist but Peart gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kilgore off to one side.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Peart.
Peart takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Kilgore shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Peart pinned against the cage. Peart gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Peart goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Kilgore tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Peart swivels and escapes.
Peart pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kilgore fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Peart throws a head kick that misses.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kilgore wants to clinch

and Peart moves into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Peart's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Kilgore breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kilgore changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Peart tries to avoid it but Kilgore manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Peart to the ground. Peart escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kilgore.
Peart looks to clinch
and Kilgore counters with a nice body shot.
Kilgore misses with a takedown attempt - Peart sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peart tries to clinch but Kilgore moves out of range.

Terry Peart showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Peart throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kilgore.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kilgore wants a takedown but no success here.
Kilgore fails to pull guard.
Peart stalling against the cage.
Peart has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Peart is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Kilgore is keeping busy.
Peart prevents the takedown attempt.
Kilgore drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kilgore tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kilgore drops down looking for an ankle pick but Peart pulls his leg out and moves away.
