PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ernie Alvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nik Makos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alvin comes to the cage accompanied by Ragga Clash. Makos has chosen Rob dougan - clubbed to death as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Nik Makos has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ernie Alvin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nik Makos!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvin doesn't manage to clinch there - Makos circles away.
Makos lands with a nice body kick.
Makos displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Nik Makos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alvin is looking to clinch but Makos is avoiding it.
Makos lands a head kick. Alvin smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Makos throws a leg kick which misses Alvin's front leg but catches the back leg as Alvin tries to avoid it.
Makos throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Makos.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alvin swats away the attempt to clinch by Makos.

Makos rushes Alvin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The is referee keeping an eye on Makos - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Alvin is trying to break the clinch but Makos is controlling him.
Makos lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Makos breaks from the clinch.
Alvin takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
A head kick misses from Makos.
Makos misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Makos lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Makos shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Alvin is trying to defend but Makos finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Makos is nestled in close to Alvin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Alvin is looking to escape.
Makos tries to stand and escape but Alvin is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alvin wants to get back to full guard.
Alvin is breathing heavily.
Makos tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Makos is trying to control the action in half guard but Alvin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Makos is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Makos has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Alvin's face.

Makos working for a submission but Alvin is keeping him at bay.
Alvin regains half guard.

Alvin is looking to control Makos's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alvin avoid being mounted?
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Makos in particular looking to stall.

Makos is working for a kimura but Alvin is defending it quite comfortably.
Makos tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Makos decides to stand and escape the position.

Nice sprawl there from Makos as Alvin shoots in.
Makos lands a high kick!

Makos pushes Alvin up against the cage in a clinch.
Makos with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Makos breaks from the clinch.

Makos shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Alvin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alvin keeping moving, preventing Makos from controlling successfully.

Makos decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Alvin avoids the head kick by Makos.
Alvin throws a sloppy head kick
and Makos counters with a head kick.
Makos misses with a two punch combination.

Makos is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Makos turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Alvin looks for the body kick but Makos saw that one coming.
Makos lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Makos moves into range and connects with a jab.
Alvin is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Makos.
Makos lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Makos throws a head kick that misses
and Alvin finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Makos keeps the fight on the outside.
Alvin on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Makos. Makos obviously looking to wear him down.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Makos circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alvin closes the distance and clinches up with Makos, looking for a takedown. Alvin pushes Makos against the cage but Makos circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A slapping leg kick lands for Makos.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nik Makos dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ouch! a nice leg kick from Makos, right into the meat.
Makos connects with a high kick.
Makos lands with a kick to the temple. Alvin shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Alvin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Makos is fending him off so far but Alvin persists. Nope, Makos circles away and we're back to standing.
The fight stays on the outside here - Alvin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Alvin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Makos circles away quickly and effectively.
Alvin doesn't manage to clinch there - Makos circles away.
Makos throws a nice outside leg kick.

Makos rushes Alvin and presses him up against the cage.

Makos gets control of Alvin's arms and successfully pulls guard. Makos will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Makos has his feet on Alvin's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Alvin takes a kick to the side of the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Makos throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Alvin's head.
Alvin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Makos.

Makos looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Alvin!
Alvin tries to lock up and control but Makos gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Alvin is trying to escape the mount.

Makos get's back to his feet.
Ernie Alvin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Makos looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Alvin takes a kick to the side of the head.

Makos closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Alvin wants to control but Makos postures up.
Makos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alvin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Makos tries for a kimura but Alvin is defending well.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Makos wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alvin keeps working.

Alvin is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Makos shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Makos was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Makos is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Alvin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Makos can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alvin is looking to escape.

Makos escapes and gets back to his feet.
Makos scores with the left hand. Alvin knows he should have avoided that one.
Makos throws a series of strikes that have Alvin backpedaling.
Makos throws a right and a left that both miss.
Alvin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Makos sprawls well. Makos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alvin gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Makos wants to clinch up but Alvin keeps it at a distance.

Nik Makos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Makos paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Alvin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Alvin won't allow Makos to sweep him here.

Makos is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Alvin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Makos pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Makos gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ernie Alvin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Makos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Makos tries a head kick but it misses.
Alvin tries to clinch up.
Makos tries to close the distance and clinch but Alvin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Makos looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alvin wants to sweep but no luck.
Makos would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Alvin wants to get back to his feet but Makos is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Makos gets to his feet - Alvin follows without any prompting.

Makos tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Makos tries to clinch but Alvin is having none of it.
Makos buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Alvin misses with a straight right.
Jab, jab by Makos - just one landing.
Alvin dodges the punch combination from Makos.
Makos scores with a punch to the head.
Makos misses with a head kick.
Makos misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Makos will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Makos moves into the clinch.

Alvin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Makos has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Makos rushes Alvin and presses him up against the cage.
Alvin takes a knee right on the jaw!

Alvin can't break the clinch.
Alvin wants to get back to striking at distance but Makos won't allow it.

Makos escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Makos has managed to clinch.

Alvin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Makos drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alvin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alvin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alvin!
Alvin is chipping away with strikes.
Alvin wants to control but Makos is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Makos's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ernie Alvin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nik Makos is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nik Makos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Makos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
