PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sergei Novikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gene Kiniski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Novikov comes to the cage accompanied by Stephen Lynch-D&D. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sergei Novikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gene Kiniski!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kiniski closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Novikov did well to prevent Kiniski getting side control.
The fighters are battling for position here. Novikov manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kiniski looking to sit in guard and control but Novikov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Novikov throwing strikes but missing.

Novikov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kiniski is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kiniski has escaped and now he's on top!
Kiniski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Novikov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kiniski is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Novikov wants to hit a switch here but Kiniski passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Novikov there!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Novikov slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kiniski performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Novikov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Novikov is refusing to be controlled, as Kiniski sits in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kiniski tries to pass the half guard into mount. Novikov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kiniski looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Novikov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Novikov is not content to let Kiniski control the position.
Novikov regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kiniski won't allow Novikov to sweep him here.
Kiniski wants to control from the top but Novikov keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiniski slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gene Kiniski dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kiniski closes the distance and clinches up with Novikov, looking for a takedown. Kiniski pushes Novikov against the cage but Novikov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Novikov shoots and misses

so Kiniski counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Novikov looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Novikov is working hard here to advance position.
Novikov wants to improve his position but instead Kiniski has moved into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Novikov wants to get back to full guard.
Kiniski stalling away here and it's allowed Novikov to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Novikov keeping moving, preventing Kiniski from controlling successfully.

Novikov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kiniski doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kiniski manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Novikov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kiniski must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Kiniski is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Novikov has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Kiniski is looking to defend but Novikov has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Kiniski! Novikov pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Kiniski taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Sergei Novikov!
