The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! LaRoche crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Penn - the referee stops the clock and LaRoche gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Penn. LaRoche manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Penn moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Penn throws a quick head kick that skims the top of LaRoche's head.

It looks like Pierre LaRoche has been cut.
Penn chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Penn lands a nice leg kick that just misses LaRoche's sensitive parts.
Penn lands with a nice combination. LaRoche backs away looking to recover.
A solid leg kick lands there for Penn.
LaRoche is breathing heavily.
LaRoche tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Penn swivels and escapes.
Penn cracks LaRoche with a big right hand and LaRoche goes down!

LaRoche is rocked!
Penn working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but LaRoche is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Penn pushing down on LaRoche's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

LaRoche is defending against the submission attempts here by Penn.

LaRoche is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penn is working for a submission of some sort.
Penn wants to stand up but LaRoche is controlling the position.

LaRoche is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Penn pulls his head out easily.
Penn moves into full mount! LaRoche won't be happy about that!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
LaRoche is looking to improve his position but Penn isn't that keen on the idea.
LaRoche throws a strike from the bottom but Penn uses the opportunity to take his back.
Penn scores with punches to the body.
LaRoche is keeping busy.
Penn is landing with strikes from the back.
LaRoche trying to control the position but Penn manages to sink in the hooks.
LaRoche is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Penn is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Will Penn go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Penn throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting LaRoche!
Penn is hanging on to LaRoche's back as he tries to escape.

Penn sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! LaRoche taps out!
