PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Sirminov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leopold Raskalnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sirminov kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Raining Blood. Leopold Raskalnikov has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Sirminov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leopold Raskalnikov!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Raskalnikov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Raskalnikov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sirminov wants to control from the top but Raskalnikov keeps moving.
Raskalnikov has Sirminov pulled in close to control his posture.

Sirminov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Raskalnikov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Raskalnikov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Raskalnikov!
Sirminov is trying to improve his position.
Sirminov dodges the ground and pound from Raskalnikov.
Sirminov tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Sirminov bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Raskalnikov is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sirminov is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Sirminov wants to stand and escape but instead Raskalnikov has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Raskalnikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sirminov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Raskalnikov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Raskalnikov doesn't manage to clinch there - Sirminov circles away.
Sirminov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Raskalnikov circles away.

so Sirminov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Raskalnikov looks gassed!

Raskalnikov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sirminov is one step ahead there.

Sirminov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Raskalnikov is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Raskalnikov has escaped and now he's on top!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Raskalnikov wants to clinch but Sirminov slips to the side

and Sirminov decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Raskalnikov's guard.
Sirminov stands and throws Raskalnikov's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Sirminov goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Raskalnikov has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sirminov but great work by Raskalnikov.
A lull in the action here.
Sirminov tries to buck Raskalnikov off but Raskalnikov is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sirminov sneaks back into half guard.
Sirminov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Raskalnikov is keen to just control but Sirminov is a slippery customer.

Sirminov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sirminov showed some decent athleticism there.

Sirminov is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Raskalnikov can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sirminov with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Sirminov avoids the attempt from Raskalnikov to control.

Sirminov throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Raskalnikov because Sirminov loaded up on that one.
Sirminov takes Raskalnikov's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Raskalnikov is in trouble.

Sirminov doesn't have the hooks in and Raskalnikov manages to turn into his guard.

Raskalnikov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sirminov is proving hard to escape from.

Sirminov has his foot on Raskalnikov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Raskalnikov works his way back into a safe position though.

Let's hope that Raskalnikov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Vladimir Sirminov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee asks Sirminov politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sirminov prefers to stall for the moment though.

Well Sirminov has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
