Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Hoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thiago Belfort struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.0lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Paul Hoon had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belfort shoots in for a takedown but Hoon shows good takedown defense.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Belfort.

Belfort tries for a kimura but Hoon is defending well.

Belfort is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hoon knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belfort working the strikes but Hoon uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Hoon is trying to stand.

Belfort is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hoon sees it coming and defends easily.
Belfort thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hoon's head.

Belfort is working for a kimura but Hoon is defending it quite comfortably.

Hoon makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Hoon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Hoon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Belfort.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Belfort closes the distance and clinches up with Hoon, looking for a takedown. Belfort pushes Hoon against the cage but Hoon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Hoon misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Belfort tries to close the distance and clinch but Hoon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Belfort shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hoon as he jumps to the side.
Hoon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Belfort shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Belfort fails to land the takedown.
Belfort misses with a takedown attempt - Hoon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Belfort tries to close the distance and clinch but Hoon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hoon lands a really nice looking cross but Belfort seems unphased.

It looks like Thiago Belfort has been cut.

Belfort shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hoon sprawls well. Hoon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Belfort gets slowly back to his feet.

Belfort closes the distance and clinches.

Hoon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Belfort closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Belfort lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hoon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Belfort loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Belfort has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Hoon will probably get the nod.

Hoon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hoon wants it to stay on the feet.

Belfort drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Belfort is working to tighten is grip on Hoon's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Hoon has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Belfort is really squeezing tight and eventually Hoon passes out! Belfort breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
