PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sick Jacken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hector Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz has chosen Foo Fighters - My Hero as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sick Jacken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hector Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Jacken shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Diaz's guard.
Jacken trying to move into half guard but instead Diaz has managed to sweep!

Jacken escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Diaz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jacken is on top in guard.

Diaz keeping moving, preventing Jacken from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet but Jacken is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Diaz is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Jacken gets to his feet. Diaz looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Jacken tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Diaz swivels and escapes.
Diaz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Diaz leaves Jacken with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Diaz throws a series of punches but Jacken avoids them all with ease.

Horrible takedown by Jacken or perhaps it was just good defense by Diaz which made him look bad.

Diaz digs a right hand into Jacken's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Jacken's gas tank.

Jacken throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diaz's waist but Diaz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jacken off to one side.
Diaz closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Jacken moves out of range.

Diaz works over Jacken's head and body with a nice combination.
Diaz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz tries to clinch but Jacken moves out of range.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Jacken moves out of range.
Diaz lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Diaz tries to bum rush Jacken with a series of wild strikes but Jacken uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diaz lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Diaz wants to clinch.
Diaz is working the combinations to good effect here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice takedown defense from Diaz. No joy for Jacken on that attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz thows a body shot but no joy.
Diaz throws a nice looking combination but Jacken bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Diaz stuffs the takedown attempt from Jacken. Jacken gets slowly back to his feet.

Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jacken circles away quickly and effectively.
Diaz is looking to clinch but Jacken is avoiding it.
Jacken fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Diaz avoids it really well and circles away.
Diaz throws a right and a left that both miss.
Sick Jacken is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jacken fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sick Jacken. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jacken shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Diaz pinned against the cage. Diaz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jacken fails to land the takedown.
Diaz scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Diaz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A right-left combo lands from Diaz.
Diaz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jacken shoots in for a double leg but Diaz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Diaz scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Diaz wants to clinch up but Jacken keeps it at a distance.
Diaz works Jacken's body with a nice hook.
Diaz throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jacken.

Diaz takes the fight into the clinch.
Diaz tries to break free but Jacken pushes him back against the cage.
Jacken tries to pull guard but Diaz holds him up against the cage and eventually Jacken drops back down to his feet.
Nice body punch from Diaz - that landed with a thud.

Jacken shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Diaz defends it nicely.
Hector Diaz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Diaz moves into the clinch.
Diaz is looking to control Jacken's arms but Jacken gets an underhook and turns him. Now Diaz has his back to the cage.
A short body shot lands from Diaz as the two fighters clinch.

Diaz breaks from the clinch.

Diaz has Jacken up against the cage in a clinch.
Diaz works on Jacken's body with a couple of short punches.
Diaz tries to break free but Jacken pushes him back against the cage.
Diaz tries to circle away but Jacken has him pinned against the cage.
Diaz misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Diaz misses with a hook to the ribs.
Jacken looking for a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hector Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Jacken scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Diaz is trying to buck Jacken off.
Sloppy strikes there by Jacken.

Jacken tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well.
Jacken trying to control the action but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Diaz is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Jacken asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Jacken is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Diaz will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jacken has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Diaz wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Jacken advances nicely into full mount.

Jacken landing punches.
Jacken sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Jacken raining down shots from the mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jacken has hold of Diaz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Diaz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jacken jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Diaz manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Diaz takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Sick Jacken has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hector Diaz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz is pushing Jacken's head away, looking to escape. Jacken manages to hold on to the position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sick Jacken showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Diaz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
