The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nieminen throws a leg kick but Hughes sees it coming and moves out of range.
Nieminen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Hughes scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Nieminen is trying to improve his position.
Nieminen is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hughes's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Hughes prevents Nieminen from improving his position.
Nieminen is controlling Hughes's trapped leg to prevent Hughes from advancing to side control.
Nieminen is looking to improve his position.
Nieminen is looking to escape.
Nieminen preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Hughes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hughes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hughes trying to hold on to Nieminen's head to control him but Nieminen postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hughes tries for a takedown but Nieminen sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nieminen swats away the attempt to clinch by Hughes.
Hughes shoots and misses

and Nieminen holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Nieminen scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Hughes stalling in the clinch but Nieminen improves position.
A short right from Nieminen on the inside.
Nieminen is pressed up against the cage. Hughes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nieminen down to the mat. Nieminen avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grant Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hughes tries to clinch but Nieminen is having none of it.
Nieminen throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Oupa Nieminen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nieminen throws a looping overhand right but Hughes ducks down to avoid it.
Hughes with a lazy takedown attempt

and Nieminen counters by clinching up.

Nieminen breaks from the clinch.
Nieminen throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hughes doesn't manage to clinch there - Nieminen circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oupa Nieminen dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hughes walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.


It looks like Grant Hughes has been cut.
Hughes misses with a takedown attempt
and Nieminen counters with an inside leg kick.
Nieminen drops Hughes with a straight right hand, right on the button! Nieminen follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Oupa Nieminen!
