PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Fung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacque Strope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Fung might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Till I Collapse. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Fung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacque Strope!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fung tries to close the distance and clinch up but Strope swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Strope shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fung but Fung pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Strope will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Fung closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Fung lands in his opponent's guard.
Fung not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Strope tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Strope can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fung controls the pace.
Fung has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Strope wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Strope manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fung manages to get himself to full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Strope wants to stand and escape but instead Fung has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Strope is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Fung is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Fung scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

You can see the frustration on Fung's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Strope tries to stand but Fung is controlling his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Strope wants to control but Fung is keeping him busy.
Strope throws an elbow but Fung slips to the side and avoids it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Fung with a poor takedown
and Strope counters with a straight right hand.
Strope should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

and Strope holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fung is fighting off a takedown attempt but Strope is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Fung to the mat. Fung regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Strope tries to stand but Fung is controlling from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Fung holds on and takes a little breather.

Fung will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Strope trying to control the position from guard on top but Fung is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fung bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Strope's guard.
Strope is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Strope looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fung is one step ahead there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Strope is trying to keep Fung in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacque Strope showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Fung wants to pass the guard but Strope is keeping the position.
Strope will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Fung passes Strope's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Strope trying to hold on to Fung's head to control him but Fung postures up.
Fung perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Strope wants to get back to full guard.
Fung throws a strike but Strope avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Strope is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Fung is controlling him.
Fung preventing the sweep.

Fung drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Strope manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fung has Strope in his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Strope passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Strope throws a strike aimed at the side of Fung's head but Fung avoids it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fung is trying to buck Strope off.
Strope staying calm.
Strope trying to control the action but Fung is working from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ryan Fung showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Fung has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
