Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Perttu Ranta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ismo Laitela!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laitela avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ranta throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nice takedown defense from Ranta. No joy for Laitela on that attempt.
Ranta is looking to clinch but Laitela is avoiding it.
Ranta tries to close the distance and clinch up but Laitela swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ranta misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Laitela fails with a takedown attempt.
Ranta clinches up with Laitela and pushes him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ranta is looking to break free of the clinch but Laitela has double underhooks.
Laitela tries for a takedown but Ranta manages to get underhooks.
Perttu Ranta has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ismo Laitela.
Laitela tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ranta just stands there and leans against the cage.
Laitela jumps guard but Ranta stands there with Laitela around his waist. Laitela gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ranta breaks the clinch.
Ranta tries to close the distance and clinch but Laitela swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Laitela shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ranta knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Laitela on the ground.
Ranta wants to improve his position but Laitela is controlling well.
Ranta wants to control but Laitela is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Laitela works his way into full mount!
Laitela jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ranta manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Laitela tries to advance to mount but can't.
Ranta tries to buck Laitela off but Laitela is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ranta wants to get back to his feet but Laitela drags him back down.
Laitela is looking to take a break and control but Ranta is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ranta striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Laitela is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ranta has escaped the position, nice work there.
Ranta is not content to let Laitela control the position.
You can see the frustration on Ranta's face as Laitela controls the position.
Ranta gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Laitela working for a submission but Ranta is keeping him at bay.

Ranta wants to try and get back to his feet.

Ranta is breathing heavily.
Laitela throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Ranta because Laitela loaded up on that one.
Laitela looking for a guillotine from mount but Ranta is having none of it.
Ranta is in all sorts of trouble here.
Laitela moves to take his opponent's back.
Ranta is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Laitela gets his way!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ranta controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Ranta is keeping busy.
Laitela working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Ranta is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Laitela has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Ranta taps out!
