PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Back Pack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Back Pack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Simon Penn!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oh, that's a big right hand from Pack and Penn goes tumbling to the canvas! Pack follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.


It looks like Simon Penn has been cut.
Penn blocking the ground and pound attempt from Pack.
Penn is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Pack is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Penn!
Pack throws some wild stikes that Penn manages to avoid easily.
Penn is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Penn tries to lock up and control but Pack gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Pack lands a heavy elbow.
Pack misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Pack throws some wild stikes that Penn manages to avoid easily.
Penn flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Pack thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Penn is working to get back to half guard.
Pack throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Penn because Pack loaded up on that one.
Pack thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Pack has hold of Penn's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Penn manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Penn regains half guard.
Pack wants to stand up but Penn has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Penn pushes Pack off looking to stand but Pack dives back in and keeps control.
Pack missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Pack working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Penn's thigh. Penn counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Pack wants to stand but Penn is controlling his posture from full guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Penn trying to keep a closed guard but Pack is proving a slippery customer.
Pack has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Penn is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Penn throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Penn tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Penn sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pack defending well though.
Pack desperately trying to maintain half guard.
It looks like Penn is going to stand back up.
Pack manages to get to full guard.
Penn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pack swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pack has a closed guard, preventing Penn from standing up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pack is on top in guard.
Pack is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Pack throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Penn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Penn is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pack won't allow Penn to sweep him here.
Pack thows a big elbow that misses.
Penn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Pack working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Penn wants to stand up but Pack is controlling him.
Pack preventing the sweep.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Penn doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Penn looks gassed!
Pack throws out a powerful jab.
Back Pack seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Penn takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Penn looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.


Penn is rocked!
Pack drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Penn's head, knocking him out cold! Pack is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Back Pack!
