PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Austin Meeks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jayson Stuart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stuart has chosen "Go Getta" - Young Jeezy as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Austin Meeks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jayson Stuart!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meeks shoots in but Stuart avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Stuart fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Meeks, pushing him back against the cage.
Meeks tries to score a body lock takedown but Stuart shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Stuart lands a knee to the body.
Meeks tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Austin Meeks. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Meeks breaks the clinch.
Meeks moves in looking to clinch but Stuart pushes him off.
Meeks circles away from the clinch attempt

and Meeks counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Meeks wants to pass to mount but Stuart is defending the position.
Stuart really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meeks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Meeks is controlling the pace.
Stuart tries to roll over but Meeks keeps him under control.

Meeks tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stuart knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Meeks prevents Stuart from improving his position.
Stuart wants to get back to his feet.
Stuart wants to control but Meeks is keeping busy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stuart tries to clinch up

and Meeks counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stuart's guard now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Meeks slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Meeks advances to half guard.
Stuart moves into full guard.

Stuart working for a triangle but Meeks defends it easily.

Meeks stands up and waves to Stuart to follow him.
Meeks is breathing heavily.

Stuart shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Meeks but Meeks pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Meeks shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stuart as he avoids it easily.
Stuart misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Stuart tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Meeks counters by clinching up.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Meeks as Stuart tries to tie him up.
Meeks can't get the takedown.
Meeks is looking to break free of the clinch but Stuart has double underhooks.

Meeks breaks from the clinch.
Stuart darts in trying to clinch

so Meeks counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Stuart looking to hit a scissor sweep but Meeks is one step ahead there.
Meeks passes Stuart's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Stuart is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Meeks jumps into side control!
Meeks fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stuart sneaks back into half guard.
Meeks moves nicely into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Austin Meeks dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Meeks throws a chopping leg kick but Stuart manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Stuart tries to clinch up

and Meeks counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stuart's guard now.
Meeks is looking to work some ground and pound but Stuart has wrist control.
Stuart controls Meeks momentarily but Meeks frees himself.
Meeks trying to control the position from guard on top but Stuart is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stuart looking for a sweep. Not yet Stuart, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Meeks sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stuart's guard.
Stuart has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Meeks is working away from the top position though.
Meeks throwing shots but Stuart is blocking nicely.
Austin Meeks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stuart closes the distance looking to clinch
and Stuart takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Stuart tries to clinch but Meeks moves away

and Meeks counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Meeks passes Stuart's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Meeks is looking to take a break and control but Stuart is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Still in half guard, Meeks seems content to control.
Stuart is looking for a sweep. Meeks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Meeks content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Stuart is trying to get back to full guard.

Meeks stands up and beckons Stuart to join him on the feet.

Meeks doesn't manage to clinch there - Stuart circles away.

Meeks moves into the clinch.
Stuart with a knee to the head.
Stuart looking to throw knees to the head but Meeks is blocking nicely.
Stuart with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Stuart gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Meeks.

Meeks breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Meeks shoots in but no luck this time.
Stuart tries to clinch there but Meeks circles away.
Stuart clinches but Meeks breaks the clinch

and Meeks counters with a single leg into guard. Stuart didn't expect that.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stuart wants to hit a switch here but Meeks passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Stuart there!
Stuart slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Stuart is trying to get back to full guard.
Meeks takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Meeks missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Meeks wants to pass to mount but Stuart is defending the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Stuart tries to clinch up but Meeks circles away and keeps his distance.

Stuart misses with a knee to the head.
Meeks misses with a punch on the inside.
Stuart throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Meeks blocks it with crossed arms.

Meeks breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

A knee to the head by Stuart.
Stuart scores a nice knee to the body.

Meeks's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Stuart closes the distance and pushes Meeks back into the cage.
Stuart prevents a body shot from Meeks.
Stuart is trying to maintain a safe position but Meeks gets an underhook and turns Stuart into the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Stuart misses with a knee to the head.
Stuart tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Meeks tries to score a body lock takedown but Stuart shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Meeks is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Stuart is defending well for now.

Meeks takes a knee right on the jaw!

Meeks pulls Stuart into guard.

Meeks has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Stuart off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Stuart tries to clinch but Meeks moves away

and Meeks decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Stuart's guard.
Meeks cracks Stuart with a solid left hand.
Meeks is looking to advance position but Stuart has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Meeks is looking to get to half guard.
Stuart fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Stuart tries to control but Meeks wriggling away.
Stuart avoids the attempt from Meeks to control.
Stuart with the ground and pound from mount.
Stuart looking to control and managing it successfully.
Meeks is trying to escape the mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Meeks's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Stuart tries to control but Meeks wriggling away.
Meeks is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Stuart can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Meeks is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Meeks manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Meeks has hold of Stuart's hands but Stuart slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Meeks controlling the position for now.
Meeks is looking to control Stuart's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Meeks avoid being mounted?
Jayson Stuart has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Austin Meeks is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Stuart throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Meeks, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
