Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Benton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benton throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mendez lands an overhand right.

It looks like Sam Benton has been cut.
Benton tries to score with a low kick but Mendez moves his leg out of the way.
Mendez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Benton.
Mendez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Mendez lands a big head kick that sends Benton tumbling to the mat! Mendez takes a step backwards and waves Benton back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Benton is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mendez has a takedown stuffed.
Benton tries to land a front kick but Mendez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Mendez on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Mendez fails to land with a series of punches.
Mendez tries to close the distance and clinch but Benton swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mendez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Benton throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mendez sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Benton is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mendez.
Mendez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Mendez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Benton manages to avoid it.

Benton throws an overhand right that lands on Mendez's shoulder, as Mendez tries to avoid the shot.

Benton ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Benton paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Mendez takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

and Mendez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mendez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Benton swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Benton has his hands on Mendez's head, controlling the position.
Mendez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Benton seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mendez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mendez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

The cut above Sam Benton's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Benton is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Mendez lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Sam Benton's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Sam Benton's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
