PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jurek Gazownik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drex Lanier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gazownik's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Spoon - Got Nuffin'. Drex Lanier will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lanier scores with the left hand. Gazownik knows he should have avoided that one.
Gazownik showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Lanier.
A left and a right from Lanier both land. Nice combination.
Lanier uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Lanier fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gazownik gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lanier is not content to let Gazownik control the position.

Lanier is controlling an arm, preventing Gazownik from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Lanier wants to hold on but Gazownik pushes him away.
Lanier bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Gazownik seems keen to control Lanier's posture.
Lanier stands and throws Gazownik's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Lanier moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Gazownik has worked his arm free - good work by Gazownik!
Gazownik wants to control but Lanier postures up.
Gazownik might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gazownik gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Lanier seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Gazownik is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lanier's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lanier's back!

Gazownik is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Lanier has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Gazownik is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

A close round but Drex Lanier will probably get the nod.
That's time! Gazownik's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Lanier tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gazownik swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gazownik fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Gazownik feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Lanier is going olschool here, as he tries to force Gazownik to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gazownik shrugs it off.

Lanier has control of Gazownik's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gazownik regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Drex Lanier showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Drex Lanier is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Lanier counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lanier.

Well Lanier has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
