The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson throws a leg kick which misses Hughizzle's front leg but catches the back leg as Hughizzle tries to avoid it.
Brock Thompson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hughizzle ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hughizzle shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Thompson but Thompson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Thompson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hughizzle manages to avoid it.

Hughizzle shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Thompson sprawls well. Thompson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hughizzle gets slowly back to his feet.

Thompson throws a right hand that Hughizzle ducks under and follows up with a left that Hughizzle also avoids with ease.

Brock Thompson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hughizzle blocks a head kick by Thompson.
Thompson throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hughizzle.
Thompson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Thompson tries to bum rush Hughizzle with a series of wild strikes but Hughizzle uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Hughizzle darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hughizzle is taking a breather. Thompson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Thompson tries to kick Hughizzle off but Hughizzle keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughizzle is keen to just control but Thompson is a slippery customer.
Thompson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Thompson wants to control but Hughizzle is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Hughizzle is stalling here. Thompson is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Hughizzle seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Thompson has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Hughizzle is not content to let Thompson control the position.
Thompson tries to score with some ground and pound. Hughizzle controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
