PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Ramsley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinzo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramsley comes to the ring accompanied by The Trooper. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Ramsley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinzo Silva!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Silva decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ramsley to his feet.
Silva throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Ramsley throws a head kick that misses.
Ramsley showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Silva.
Ramsley throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Silva scores with a punch to the head.
Ramsley lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Silva shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ramsley napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Silva in side control, throwing shots but Ramsley defends.
You can see the frustration on Ramsley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Silva thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ramsley is breathing heavily.

Silva is looking to take a break and control but Ramsley is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ramsley is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Silva is controlling him well.

The referee asks Silva politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Silva prefers to stall for the moment though.

Ramsley looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Silva feints and as Ramsley raises his hands in defense, Silva changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Silva stands and steps away. Ramsley gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Ramsley gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Silva counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Silva tries to clinch up but Ramsley circles away and keeps his distance.

Silva breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Silva gets control of Ramsley's arms and successfully pulls guard. Silva will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Silva looking for a guillotine here but Ramsley defends easily.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Silva counters by moving into the clinch.
Silva fails to pull the fight into his guard.

John Ramsley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shinzo Silva.
Ramsley wants to break free but Silva has control.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Silva.

Silva shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Silva showed some decent athleticism there.

Silva looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Silva is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ramsley has escaped the position, nice work there.

Silva decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ramsley to his feet.

Silva closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Silva not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ramsley is trying to stand up here but Silva is controlling him well.
Silva is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shinzo Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Ramsley falls off balance throwing a combination
and Silva counters with a stiff right hand.

Silva shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Silva is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ramsley is trying to stand up here but Silva is controlling him well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ramsley keeps working.

Silva decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Ramsley throws a head kick but Silva moves out of range.

Silva decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Silva working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Silva stands up and beckons Ramsley to join him on the feet.

John Ramsley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silva is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ramsley's half guard.

Silva is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ramsley doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Silva.
Silva is keen to just control but Ramsley is a slippery customer.

Silva stops Ramsley from getting back to his feet.
Silva is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Silva has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Silva maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Ramsley could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Silva has cracked it and Ramsley is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Silva!
