PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tairy Greene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sero Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim has chosen CANON in D Korean Version (with gayageum) as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tairy Greene!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sero Kim!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim misses with an attempted mid kick.
Greene throws the left hand but Kim avoids the punch easily.
Greene will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Greene chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kim can pounce on him.
Greene shoots in looking for a takedown. Kim tries to sprawl out of it but Greene keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kim manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Horrible takedown by Greene or perhaps it was just good defense by Kim which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tairy Greene. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kim bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Greene fails to land the takedown.

Greene changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kim looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kim is trying to get back to half guard.
Greene tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kim wants to control but Greene postures up.

Greene is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kim has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kim struggling a bit here.

Greene throws an elbow but Kim slips to the side and avoids it well.
Kim is trying to control Greene's posture but Greene avoids it.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Greene tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kim swivels and escapes.

Kim goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Kim pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Greene checks a leg kick nicely.

Greene scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Kim takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Greene trying to control the action but Kim is working from the bottom.
Greene creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kim sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Kim wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Kim parries the strikes from Greene easily there. Greene is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kim to escape.
Greene looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Kim is avoiding damage well.
Greene has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Greene lands a few punches from side control.
Kim is looking for a sweep.
Greene trying to control the position but Kim is working away.
Greene in side control, throwing shots but Kim defends.
Kim wants to control but Greene postures up.

Greene is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kim knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Kim is trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sero Kim will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Greene shoots for a takedown but Kim saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kim is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Greene.

Greene feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kim tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Greene is pushing down on Kim's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kim is fighting to maintain full guard but Greene has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kim tries to roll over but Greene keeps him under control.
Greene looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Greene is thwarting Kim's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Greene trying to control from half guard but Kim is working away.
Greene throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kim manages to get to full guard.
Greene throwing strikes but missing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Greene wants to control from the top but Kim keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kim stuffs the takedown attempt from Greene. Greene gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Nice sprawl there from Kim as Greene shoots in.

Greene checks a leg kick nicely.
Greene looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kim is fending him off so far but Greene persists. Nope, Kim circles away and we're back to standing.

Greene dips to his left and cracks Kim with an uppercut!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Greene.
Tairy Greene is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kim slaps away a takedown attempt from Greene, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Greene shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kim as he jumps to the side.
Kim tried to score with a low kick but Greene checks it.

Kim tries to close the distance and clinch up but Greene swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kim looks to land a body kick but Greene moved away.
Kim keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Greene tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kim sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Greene somewhat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Greene moves out of range as Kim throws a body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tairy Greene dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Kim defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Greene.
Greene takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Kim throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Greene is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kim sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Greene tries to keep at a distance but Kim has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kim tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Kim is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Greene is defending well for now.
Greene prevents a takedown attempt there.
Kim is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Greene gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Greene gets control of Kim's arms and successfully pulls guard. Greene will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kim throws a big right hand that misses.
Kim controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Greene tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kim scoring with some ground and pound.
Kim trying to control but Greene is working from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kim throws a strike but Greene rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Greene in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Kim manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kim is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Greene can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Kim sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Kim pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Kim avoids the attempt from Greene to control.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kim cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Tairy Greene overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Greene sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Kim not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Greene gets full guard.
Kim scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Kim distracts Greene with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Greene keeping moving, preventing Kim from controlling successfully.

Kim wants to pass the guard but Greene is keeping the position.
Kim wanted to stand there but Greene had control of the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sero Kim comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
