PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bubba Tep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marvin Heemeyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tep comes to the cage accompanied by You're the Best Around. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bubba Tep!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marvin Heemeyer!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heemeyer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tep works the jab nicely.
Heemeyer pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Marvin Heemeyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Tep checks a leg kick.
Heemeyer slips a straight right by Tep.
Tep throws a sloppy head kick
and Heemeyer counters with a nice body kick.
Heemeyer is looking to clinch but Tep is avoiding it.
A clash of legs there as Tep blocks the low kick.
Tep scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Heemeyer throws a head kick but Tep moves out of range.
Tep throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Heemeyer sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Heemeyer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

The fight stays on the outside here - Heemeyer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Tep throws a series of punches but Heemeyer avoids them all with ease.

Tep throws a nice looking combination but Heemeyer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Tep throws a series of punches but Heemeyer moves out of range.
Heemeyer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tep was well out of range. Poor timing from Heemeyer.

Heemeyer moves into the clinch.
Heemeyer throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Tep blocks it with crossed arms.

Tep gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Heemeyer seems keen to control Tep's posture.
Heemeyer looking for a sweep. Not yet Heemeyer, not yet.
Heemeyer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Tep wants to pass the guard but Heemeyer is keeping the position.
Heemeyer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Heemeyer working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Tep wants to improve his position but Heemeyer is controlling well.
Tep is breathing heavily.
Heemeyer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Heemeyer passes into side control, despite Tep's attempt to control the position.
Tep wants to control but Heemeyer postures up.
Heemeyer scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Tep to see if he's OK.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tep is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Heemeyer's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Heemeyer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Tep seems to have got his legs back now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Heemeyer connects with a nice short shot to Tep's temple.
Tep has hold of Heemeyer's hands but Heemeyer slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marvin Heemeyer dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Tep lunges at Heemeyer with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Heemeyer's hand.
Heemeyer lands a nice leg kick that just misses Tep's sensitive parts.
Heemeyer walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Heemeyer misses with a low kick.

Heemeyer lands a head kick that stumbles Tep and the fighters go to the mat.


It looks like Bubba Tep has been cut.
Heemeyer gets to his feet and stands over Tep, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Tep felt that one! Heemeyer unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Tep from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marvin Heemeyer!
