Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rullo Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Sparks!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sparks feints and then cracks Gracie's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gracie down.
Nice takedown defense from Sparks. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.

Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sparks looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sparks, who protects the arm well.
Sparks wants to get back to his feet.
Sparks prevents Gracie from moving into mount.
Sparks is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Gracie is trying to get an arm triangle but Sparks is defending well.
Sparks is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
I wouldn't like to be where Sparks is right now.

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sparks knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Sparks is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Sparks managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Gracie.
Sparks struggling a bit here.
Sparks tries to bench press Gracie off him but Gracie keeps the position.
You can see the frustration on Sparks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sparks as he jumps to the side.
Gracie showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Sparks.
Rullo Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sparks with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Sparks misses with a jab, cross combination.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Sparks has Gracie pulled in close to control his posture.
Sparks is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Sparks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sparks wants to get back to his feet but Gracie is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Gracie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Sparks has his feet on Gracie's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Sparks lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gracie at a distance.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Sparks moves into the clinch.
Sparks is pressed up against the cage. Gracie has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sparks down to the mat. Sparks avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rullo Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sparks is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Sparks circles away and we're back to standing.
Sparks throws a right and a left that both miss.
Sparks swinging wilding here.

Sparks tries to clinch up.
Sparks throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Gracie scores with a takedown into Sparks's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sparks can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gracie trying to control but Sparks is working from the bottom.
Sparks wants to stand up but Gracie is controlling him.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Sparks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sparks avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Sparks is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Sparks keeps moving.

Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Sparks is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sparks throws a right and a left that Gracie avoids nicely.

Gracie fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sparks, pushing him back against the cage.
Sparks prevents a takedown attempt there.

Sparks breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sparks throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sparks tests Gracie's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Sparks misses with a series of wild punches.
Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Left hook, right uppercut from Sparks.


It looks like Rullo Gracie has been cut.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Sparks shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Sparks drops Gracie with a beautiful combination! Gracie stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Sparks is looking for the KO!


Gracie is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sparks Rushes Gracie and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Gracie is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Sparks Piles on the pressure and Gracie crumples to the floor! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy Sparks!
