PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luis Matos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksandar Kozlov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kozlov has chosen Eye of the Tiger as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandar Kozlov!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kozlov misses with a double jab.
Kozlov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Matos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kozlov somewhat.
Horrible takedown by Kozlov or perhaps it was just good defense by Matos which made him look bad.
Kozlov tries to clinch up but Matos circles away and keeps his distance.
Matos shoots in for a double leg but Kozlov sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Matos motions for Kozlov to come forward. Matos throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kozlov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Matos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kozlov has managed to get both his arms back between Matos's legs - danger averted.
Matos wants to stand up but Kozlov is controlling him.
Kozlov looking to sit in guard and control but Matos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kozlov wants to stand and escape but Matos is having none of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kozlov is trying to control the position but Matos postures up.
Matos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kozlov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kozlov wants to stand but Matos is controlling the position.

Matos gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Kozlov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kozlov scores with a one two! Matos had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Luis Matos has been cut.
A jab from Kozlov misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kozlov throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Matos on the side of the head.

Matos fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kozlov avoids it really well and circles away.
Kozlov lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Matos has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kozlov's face.

Still in the clinch, Kozlov scores with a nice short uppercut.
Matos gets underhooks to prevent Kozlov's takedown attempt.

Matos ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Matos no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Kozlov wants to get up but he can't break Matos's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Luis Matos.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Matos, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
