PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corwyn Potts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell's entrance music is Just Another Victim by Helmet & House of Pain. A fine choice. Potts has chosen Mama Said Knock you Out as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kurt Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corwyn Potts!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Liddell feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Liddell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Liddell wants to control from the top but Potts keeps moving.

Potts is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Liddell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Potts has momentary wrist control but Liddell slips an elbow through the middle.

Liddell decides to stand up.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Liddell.
Liddell keeps the fight on the outside.
Potts tries to clinch there but Liddell circles away.

Liddell closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Liddell lands in his opponent's guard.
Liddell postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Liddell cracks Potts with a solid left hand.

Potts had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Liddell is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Potts Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Liddell's back instead.
Liddell manages to reverse the position and now he's in Potts's guard. Nice work there by Liddell.
Liddell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Potts's guard.
Liddell wants to take a breather but Potts is having none of it.
Liddell working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Liddell escapes and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Liddell keeps the fight on the outside.
Liddell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Liddell is trying hard to land a takedown here. Potts sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kurt Liddell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Liddell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Potts pinned against the cage. Potts gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Potts moves in looking to clinch but Liddell pushes him off.
A big right from Liddell misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Potts is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Liddell scores with a couple of nice shots.

Liddell is trying to control. Potts wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Liddell lands a nice short elbow.
Liddell passes the guard and advances to mount!

Liddell scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Liddell tries to control but Potts wriggling away.
Liddell has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Potts's face.
Potts takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.


It looks like Corwyn Potts has been cut.
Liddell putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The cut above Corwyn Potts's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Corwyn Potts's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
