PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Gustav (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gustav has chosen D12 Fight Music as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustav is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A swing and a miss from Gustav.
Gustav walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Gustav scores with a sloppy right hand. Red should have avoided that one.

Red instigates a clinch.
Gustav missing with knees to the body.
Red pushes off an throws an elbow but Gustav leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Gustav wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Red has Gustav pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Red pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gustav tumbling to the mat - Red dives into Gustav's guard.

Gustav is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Red is controlling him.

Red is chipping away with strikes.
Gustav avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Red.
Red postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Gustav is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
You can see the frustration on Gustav's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Red has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Red wants to control but Gustav is keeping him busy.

Gustav tries to bench press Red off him but Red keeps the position.

Red postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gustav looks a forlorn figure.

Gustav is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Red goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Gustav turns into him and now he's in Red's guard.
Gustav would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Red pulls Gustav in close to prevent any damage.

Gustav avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gustav stopping the sweep attempt from Red.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! Red's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Jimmy Red is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Red scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
The fighters circling - Gustav throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gustav closes the distance but Red moves to the side

Gustav wants to stall.
Red digs a right hand underneath Gustav's ribcage. Gustav let out a lung full of air as it connected.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Red.
Red keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Gustav's efforts to push away.
Red is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Red changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gustav fights it off and pushes away nicely.

A right-left combo lands from Red.
Red circles away from the clinch attempt
and Red counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Gustav is breathing heavily.
Red scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Red closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Red lands a decent elbow from side control.
Red grinds an elbow into Gustav's temple.

Red is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gustav is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Red has knee on belly momentarily but Gustav bucks him off and regains half guard.
Gustav wants to improve his position but Red is controlling well.
Red wants to pass to mount but Gustav is defending the position.
Red throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Red is nestled in close to Gustav, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Red lands a nice short elbow.
Gustav is staying active underneath Red, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Red is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gustav doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Red.

Red in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Gustav tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Red!
