PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duke Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that James Adam has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily James Adam seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, James Adam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Duke Richard!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Steven Brown and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Adam throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Adam tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Richard paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Adam throws a jab when Richard was well out of range.
Richard bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Adam shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Richard but Richard pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Adam looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Richard is fending him off so far but Adam persists. Nope, Richard circles away and we're back to standing.
James Adam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Richard bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Richard misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Adam tries to bench press Richard off him but Richard keeps the position.

Richard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Adam, who protects the arm well.
Adam is not content to let Richard control the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Adam is looking to clinch but Richard is avoiding it.
Adam lands with a nice combination. Richard backs away looking to recover.
Adam misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Adam will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Adam throws a shot from downtown. Richard moves away and avoids it.

Adam is looking to clinch.

Richard is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Adam is just riding it out for now. Richard eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Adam bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Richard's guard.
Adam seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Adam is working Richard over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Duke Richard will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Richard swats away the attempt to clinch by Adam.
Adam throws a left and a right that both miss

and Richard counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Adam's guard now.
Richard won't allow Adam to sweep him here.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Adam holds on and takes a little breather.

Richard is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Adam is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Adam has escaped and now he's on top!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Adam is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Adam gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Adam misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Richard.

Adam wants to control but Richard postures up.

Adam is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Richard is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee stands the fighters back up. James Adam just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Adam manages to work his way to half guard, despite Richard's best efforts.
Richard passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Adam!
Richard lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Richard has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Adam's face.

Richard is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Adam can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Richard throws some wild stikes that Adam manages to avoid easily.

Richard looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Adam is in all sorts of trouble here.
Adam tries to hold on but Richard postures up.
Adam keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Adam wants to hold on but Richard pushes him away.
Adam is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Adam is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Adam defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Richard.

Duke Richard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Adam tries to close the distance and clinch but Richard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Adam ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Richard moves away.

Richard shoots in for a double leg but Adam sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Duke Richard has got the better of the ground game so far.
Richard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Adam works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Duke Richard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Richard winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
