PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rankka Ankka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lewis Tsushima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ankka's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Stone Sour - Cardiff. Tsushima has chosen Eminem - Till I Collapse as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rankka Ankka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lewis Tsushima!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tsushima stuffs the takedown attempt from Ankka. Ankka gets slowly back to his feet.
Ankka keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Tsushima throws an overhand right that lands on Ankka's shoulder, as Ankka tries to avoid the shot.
Tsushima misses with a double jab.
Ankka tries to clinch up.

Ankka clinches up against the cage.
Tsushima tries to break the clinch but Ankka is controlling the position.

Tsushima's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ankka throws a one two combo.


It looks like Lewis Tsushima has been cut.
Ankka throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ankka throws a series of punches but Tsushima moves out of range.
Ankka tries to clinch there but Tsushima circles away.
A telegraphed right hand from Ankka misses the target.
Tsushima has a takedown stuffed.
Rankka Ankka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ankka closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Ankka tightens his grip and picks Tsushima up, before dumping him to the ground. Tsushima manages to land in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ankka wants to control from the top but Tsushima keeps moving.

Tsushima is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Ankka throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ankka wanted to stand there but Tsushima had control of the position.
Tsushima seems keen to control Ankka's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ankka is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ankka throws a strike but Tsushima rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ankka looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tsushima is one step ahead there.
Tsushima is working Ankka over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Ankka utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Ankka tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tsushima tests Ankka's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Ankka throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ankka is looking to clinch.
Ankka moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Tsushima scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Ankka doesn't seem bothered though.
Tsushima misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ankka.
Ankka fails in his attempt to clinch.

A jab from Tsushima does it's job there.
Ankka walks into a stiff left hand from Tsushima.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tsushima dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ankka with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Tsushima to score with a decent uppercut.

Tsushima changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ankka looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ankka is breathing heavily.
Tsushima tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Ankka is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Tsushima wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ankka, who protects the arm well.
Ankka tries to get back to half guard but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ankka is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Ankka is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lewis Tsushima will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Lewis Tsushima's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ankka throws a lazy right hand but Tsushima sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ankka throws an overhand right that lands on Tsushima's shoulder, as Tsushima tries to avoid the shot.
Ankka thumps Tsushima with a low kick.
Ankka shoots in but no luck this time.
Ankka thows a left - swing and a miss!
Tsushima uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ankka has time to react.
Tsushima scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Tsushima throws a lazy right hand but Ankka sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ankka wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Ankka wants to clinch.
Tsushima moves away from the strike by Ankka.
Tsushima scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Lewis Tsushima seems to be getting the better of the standup.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tsushima keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tsushima lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Ankka walks into a jab.

Tsushima lands a nice shot to the body.
Tsushima takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Tsushima tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ankka was well out of range. Poor timing from Tsushima.
Tsushima shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ankka as he jumps to the side.
A jab lands there for Tsushima.

Tsushima lands a left and a right that send Ankka crashing to the mat, dazed. Tsushima thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Rankka Ankka has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ankka takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Tsushima digs a good body shot into Ankka's ribs.

Tsushima closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tsushima lands in his opponent's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tsushima accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Tsushima avoids a kick to the body.
Ankka has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ankka there as he acknowledges the shot.
Tsushima looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

and Ankka makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Ankka misses with a wild combination.
Ankka misses with a straight right.
Ankka shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Tsushima counters with a left to the body.

Tsushima looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Tsushima is thwarting Ankka's attempts to control the position.
Tsushima thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ankka's head.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tsushima is keen to just control but Ankka is a slippery customer.
Tsushima thows a huge punch but Ankka dodges it nicely.

Lewis Tsushima showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Ankka's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Tsushima takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Ankka shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tsushima sprawls well. Tsushima wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ankka gets slowly back to his feet.

Ankka bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Tsushima's head backwards.

and Tsushima counters with a nice uppercut.

Ankka throws a looping overhand right but Tsushima ducks down to avoid it.
Ankka throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Tsushima misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ankka.
Ankka misses with a two punch combination.

and Tsushima counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ankka thinking.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Tsushima just misses with a punch to the body.

Ankka clinches up with Tsushima and pushes him back against the cage.

Ankka tries to work over Tsushima's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Tsushima wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Tsushima is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Ankka misses with a short punch on the inside.
Tsushima blocks an uppercut.
Tsushima just leaning against Ankka, taking a breather.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ankka.
Tsushima has had enough of the clinch but Ankka keeps him there for the moment.
Tsushima gets underhooks to prevent Ankka's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rankka Ankka. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tsushima wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ankka has him pressed against the cage.
Tsushima jumps guard but Ankka stands there with Tsushima around his waist. Tsushima gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Ankka lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Ankka swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Tsushima tries to break free but Ankka pushes him back against the cage.

A short right from Ankka on the inside.
Ankka lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Ankka lands an uppercut.

Ankka turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ankka manages to end up in side control.
Tsushima sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Ankka throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ankka trying to control the action but Tsushima is working from the bottom.
Ankka is looking to advance position but Tsushima won't allow it.
Tsushima is controlling Ankka's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Ankka sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Tsushima defending well though.
Tsushima is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ankka's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ankka's back!
Tsushima is throwing strikes by Ankka counters by rolling into a better position. After a scramble, Ankka regains half guard.
Tsushima not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Lewis Tsushima is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Tsushima looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ankka is defending against the submission attempts here by Tsushima.
Rankka Ankka has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ankka makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ankka.
Tsushima passes Ankka's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Tsushima stops Ankka from getting back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rankka Ankka showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Tsushima has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
