Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brent Squires (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivok Smolar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brent Squires!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivok Smolar!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smolar fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Squires is out of range.
Squires fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Squires closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Smolar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Squires asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Smolar wants to get back to his feet but Squires is dominant here and he's now got Smolar's back!
Smolar avoids the strikes from Squires.
Smolar looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Squires punishes Smolar with strikes from the back mount.
Smolar covering up well under a barage of strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smolar manages to stand up with Squires still on his back. Eventually Squires drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.

Squires takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Squires decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Squires stalling away here and it's allowed Smolar to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Squires trying to mount his opponent but Smolar defends it.

Squires wants to work for an arm triangle but Smolar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Squires wants to stand up but Smolar has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Squires with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

A nice glancing elbow lands by Squires.
Squires is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Smolar tries to break the clinch but Squires is controlling the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Squires using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Smolar has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Squires is trying to drag Smolar to the mat but Smolar just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

That's time! Squires's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Smolar swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Smolar missing with a left hand there. Squires was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Squires shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Smolar sprawls well. Smolar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Squires gets slowly back to his feet.
Smolar rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Squires moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smolar misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Squires looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smolar is fending him off so far but Squires persists. Nope, Smolar circles away and we're back to standing.
Squires moves in looking to clinch but Smolar pushes him off.
Smolar throws a hook but Squires avoids it easily.

Squires shoots in and bounces Smolar off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Smolar wants to stand and escape but Squires is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Squires passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The ground and pound from Squires seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Smolar is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Squires is controlling him well.
Squires connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Smolar some visible discomfort.
Smolar wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Smolar throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Squires on the side of the head.

Squires closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Squires tries to pass to full mount but Smolar defends it.
Squires throwing shots but Smolar is blocking nicely.
Smolar pushes Squires off looking to stand but Squires dives back in and keeps control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smolar is not content to let Squires control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smolar can do anything to dispel that myth.

Smolar bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Squires's head backwards.
Smolar misses with a low kick.
Smolar avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Squires ducks under a wild hook from Smolar.
A head kick from Squires lands but Smolar takes it in his stride.
Squires tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Nice uppercut lands for Smolar. That snapped Squires's head back.

Smolar thows a body shot but no joy.

Squires clinches up with Smolar and pushes him back against the cage.

Smolar lands with a cross.

Smolar lands a nice shot that snaps Squires's head back.
Squires lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Smolar backs up against the cage.
Smolar lands a nice looking body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Squires is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Smolar.

Smolar lands a left and a right that send Squires crashing to the mat, dazed. Smolar thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Squires is rocked!
Smolar walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Squires drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Smolar swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Squires's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ivok Smolar!
