PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Agashi Saroyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dean has chosen Enter Sandman as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Agashi Saroyan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luke Dean!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Fedor Mirinova and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saroyan feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Dean's calf.
Saroyan throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Saroyan takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


It looks like Agashi Saroyan has been cut.

Dean darts in and clinches Saroyan up against the cage.

Dean's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dean tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dean throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Dean throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Saroyan was covering up waiting for the punch and Dean finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dean wants to pass the guard but Saroyan is keeping the position.

Saroyan had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Dean is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Saroyan Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Dean's back instead.
Dean wants to control his opponent's hands but Saroyan gets his hands free.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Dean defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Dean wants to escape the position.
Dean wants to get back to his feet.
Saroyan has the hooks in. Dean is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Saroyan is looking for a choke. Dean gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Dean manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
Saroyan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Dean wants to control from the top but Saroyan keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Saroyan is trying to stick to Dean's back but Dean is turning into Saroyan. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Saroyan's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Dean.
Dean should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Dean stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Saroyan misses with a body kick.
Dean is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Dean avoids a punch combination nicely.
Dean throws a right and a left that both miss.
Agashi Saroyan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Saroyan tries to clinch but Dean moves out of range.
Dean tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Saroyan paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Dean closes the distance and pushes Saroyan back into the cage.

Dean successfully pulls guard.
Dean wants to sweep but no luck.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dean holds on and takes a little breather.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dean keeping moving, preventing Saroyan from controlling successfully.
Dean is controlling Saroyan's posture.
Saroyan trying to control the position from guard on top but Dean is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dean holds on and takes a little breather.
Let's hope that Dean has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Dean's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luke Dean dominated that round.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dean fails with a takedown attempt.
Dean misses with a straight right.
Dean thows a body kick. Saroyan tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Dean closes this distance looking for a takedown but Saroyan circles away.

Dean shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Saroyan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Dean throws a big right hand that misses.
Saroyan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Dean stands and steps away. Saroyan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Dean is looking to clinch but Saroyan is avoiding it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Dean - that will leave a mark!
This has been an exciting period of action!
No joy there for Dean, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

A head kick misses from Saroyan.
Saroyan falls off balance throwing a combination

and Dean counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Saroyan!
Dean trying to control but Saroyan is having none of it.
Saroyan is in a horrible position here. Dean smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Dean pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Dean is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Saroyan has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Dean takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Dean is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Saroyan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Dean trying to control but Saroyan is having none of it.
Dean is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Dean controlling the pace for now.

Dean is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Saroyan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Dean cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Dean looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Dean tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Saroyan wants to hold on but Dean pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dean controlling from the full mount.
Dean postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Saroyan looks a forlorn figure.
Dean content just to control the position here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Saroyan really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luke Dean showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Dean closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dean lands in his opponent's guard.
Saroyan keeping moving, preventing Dean from controlling successfully.
Luke Dean has got the better of the ground game so far.
Dean tries to free his leg and advance position but Saroyan is retaining full guard.
Dean looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Despite being in the dominant position, Luke Dean just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dean shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Dean seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Saroyan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Dean stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Saroyan to get to his feet.

Saroyan is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Dean is defending well for now.
Saroyan prevents the takedown attempt.

Dean's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dean tries to clinch but Saroyan moves out of range.
Dean slips under a jab.

Dean gets to his feet - Saroyan follows without any prompting.

Saroyan avoids the head kick by Dean.

Dean shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Saroyan is trying to defend but Dean finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Saroyan wants to get back to full guard.
Dean lands with a punch from half guard.

Dean is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Saroyan defends it well.

Saroyan wants to control but Dean is keeping busy.

Dean stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Dean closes the distance and pushes Saroyan back into the cage.
Dean lands an elbow inside.
A short right from Saroyan.

Dean tightens his grip and picks Saroyan up, before dumping him to the ground. Saroyan manages to land in guard.
Agashi Saroyan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Luke Dean is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dean is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Luke Dean comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dean has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
