The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mckanze wants to clinch.
Gomez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mckanze swivels and escapes.

Gomez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mckanze looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mckanze looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mckanze!

Mckanze has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gomez is working away from the top position though.
Mckanze is staying active underneath Gomez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Gomez passes the guard and advances to mount!
Mckanze is in a horrible position here. Gomez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Mckanze tries to lock up and control but Gomez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gomez has control of Mckanze's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Mckanze regains control of the situation pretty easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gomez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mckanze is squirming around, avoiding Gomez's attempts to control the action.

Mckanze got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gomez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mckanze has managed to get both his arms back between Gomez's legs - danger averted.
