PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Rendler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Valdemar Tuco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tuco has chosen Frank Dellé - Pound Power as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jack Rendler had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Rendler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Valdemar Tuco!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rendler throws a hook to the side of Tuco's head but Tuco sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Rendler looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Rendler misses with a looping left.
Rendler fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Tuco is out of range.
A swing and a miss from Rendler.

Tuco fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rendler sprawls well initially but Tuco persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Tuco is trying to work for a kimura but Rendler is defending well.
Tuco throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Tuco is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Tuco throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Tuco not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Tuco wants to free his trapped foot but Rendler is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Tuco thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rendler's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tuco circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rendler showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Tuco.
Tuco bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.


It looks like Jack Rendler has been cut.
Tuco lands with an overhand left.
Rendler blocks a head kick by Tuco.
Tuco fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Tuco throws a nice inside leg kick.
Rendler gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Tuco.
Tuco shoots in for a double leg but Rendler sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Tuco misses with a double jab.
Rendler takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Rendler throws the left hand but Tuco avoids the punch easily.

Tuco cracks Rendler with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Jack Rendler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A solid leg kick lands there for Tuco.
Rendler throws a left and a right that both miss
and Tuco counters with a right hand to the body.
Rendler thows a left - swing and a miss!
Tuco slips a jab from Rendler.
Tuco shoots in for a takedown but Rendler shows good takedown defense.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tuco takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Rendler bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tuco.
Jack Rendler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Valdemar Tuco.
Tuco throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Tuco scores with a jab.
Tuco scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Tuco walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Rendler throws a right and a left that Tuco avoids nicely.

Tuco misses the shot to the body.

Tuco gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Rendler tries for a takedown. No joy.

Tuco gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rendler wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rendler avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tuco advances to half guard.
Tuco wants to free his trapped foot but Rendler is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Tuco is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Rendler moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Rendler working for a triangle but Tuco defends it easily.
Tuco wants to stand and escape but instead Rendler has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Valdemar Tuco dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jack Rendler's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rendler tries to close the distance and clinch but Tuco swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tuco throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A head kick by Rendler misses

and Tuco holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Tuco's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tuco wants to clinch up but Rendler keeps it at a distance.
Tuco uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Rendler.
Tuco scores with a leg kick.
Tuco tries to clinch there but Rendler circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tuco misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rendler looking to land some kicks to the body here.
A nice combination there by Tuco.
Tuco scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rendler doesn't seem bothered though.

Rendler moves out of range as Tuco strikes.

and Tuco counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rendler's guard now.

Rendler had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Tuco is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Rendler Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Tuco's back instead.

Tuco is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Tuco turns into Rendler and is now in his guard.

Tuco working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rendler thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Tuco thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Tuco tries to free his leg and advance position but Rendler is retaining full guard.
Tuco wants to control from the top but Rendler keeps moving.
Tuco slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rendler is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on Rendler's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Tuco closes the distance and clinches up with Rendler, looking for a takedown. Tuco pushes Rendler against the cage but Rendler circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rendler is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Tuco's half guard.
Tuco makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tuco.
Rendler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tuco swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tuco utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Rendler works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Tuco slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Rendler avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rendler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rendler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Valdemar Tuco has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rendler is working Tuco over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rendler accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tuco manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rendler manages to get himself to full guard.

Valdemar Tuco showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Rendler misses with a double jab
and Tuco cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Tuco dips to his left and cracks Rendler with an uppercut!
Tuco dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tuco is looking to clinch but Rendler is avoiding it.

Tuco closes the distance and clinches.
Tuco gets underhooks to prevent Rendler's takedown attempt.

Tuco manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Tuco is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rendler defends well.
Tuco manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Tuco is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Rendler has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Rendler!

Rendler trying to control the position from guard on top but Tuco is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rendler makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Tuco is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rendler works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Rendler closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Tuco to the mat! Tuco manages to get full guard.

and Tuco decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rendler's guard.

Tuco wants to control from the top but Rendler keeps moving.
Tuco won't allow Rendler to sweep him here.
Jack Rendler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Valdemar Tuco is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Tuco tries to free his leg and advance position but Rendler is retaining full guard.

Valdemar Tuco comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tuco has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
