PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Choo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Smelly Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Animal Crackers In My Soup by Sherly Temple kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Choo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Smelly Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Choo.
Nelson is looking to clinch.

Choo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nelson keeps working.

Choo is trying to control the action in half guard but Nelson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Choo fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Nelson is out of range.

Nelson wants to stand and escape but Choo is having none of it.

Nelson tries to close the distance and clinch but Choo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Choo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nelson but Nelson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Nelson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Choo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Choo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Choo won't allow Nelson to get back to his feet.
Choo looking to sit in guard and control but Nelson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Choo controls Nelson momentarily but Nelson frees himself.

Choo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Nelson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Nelson wanted to stand there but Choo had control of the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nelson ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Choo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Choo has knee on belly and moves into mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Choo is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Nelson is in real trouble.

What can Nelson do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Nelson is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Choo gets his way!

Choo swats away the attempt to clinch by Nelson.
Choo looks for a takedown but Nelson sprawls well.
Some bone on bone action there as Nelson checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Choo has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Nelson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
