PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Virtua Fighta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams has chosen Purity by Slipknot as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Virtua Fighta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Williams!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Fighta uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Williams tries for a takedown but Fighta sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Fighta scores with a kick to the midsection.
Fighta avoids the head kick by Williams.
Williams looks gassed!
Williams fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Virtua Fighta has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Williams.

Williams gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fighta slips nicely into half guard.
Fighta takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Fighta tries to stand and escape but Williams is controlling the position.
Fighta lands strikes from half guard.
Fighta content to control rather than advance.

Williams regains full guard. Nicely done.

Fighta stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Williams has momentary wrist control but Fighta slips an elbow through the middle.

Fighta looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Fighta wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Williams avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Fighta scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Williams is looking to improve his position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Williams is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Fighta pulls his head out easily.

Williams moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Williams striking off his back but it's not causing Fighta any problems.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Fighta lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Williams gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Fighta decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Williams's guard.
Williams looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Fighta puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Fighta is trying to control the action in half guard but Williams is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Fighta decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Fighta misses with a series of wild punches.
Williams looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Fighta drives through and clinches with Williams against the cage.
Fighta wants to break the clinch but can't.
Williams has Fighta pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fighta manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Fighta wants a takedown.

Williams is fighting off a takedown attempt but Fighta is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Williams to the mat. Williams regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Williams is looking for a triangle but Fighta pushes his legs off easily.

Fighta avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Williams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fighta postures up in Williams's guard and throws a big left but Williams blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Virtua Fighta dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Williams avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Williams closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fighta circles away.
Fighta is looking to clinch but Williams is avoiding it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Fighta connects with a nice short shot to Williams's temple.
Williams works his way to full guard. Good work.

Williams looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Fighta drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fighta jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Williams has his foot on Fighta's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fighta works his way back into a safe position though.
Williams wants to sweep here but Fighta controlling him for the moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Williams working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fighta doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fighta manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fighta is nestled in close to Williams, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Williams is looking to sinch up a triangle. Fighta throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Williams's body to avoid the submission. Williams has instead reached around Fighta's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Williams arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
