PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stevie Why (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dexter Rutecki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rutecki is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Remember the Name. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stevie Why!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dexter Rutecki!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Why shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Why showed some decent athleticism there.
Rutecki wants to get back to his feet.

Rutecki is defending against the submission attempts here by Why.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Why looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Why is working for a submission of some sort.
Rutecki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Why. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Why wants to take a breather but Rutecki is having none of it.
Why passes the guard and advances to mount!
Why fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Rutecki is wriggling around trying to escape.

Why takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Why looking to finish with strikes here!
Rutecki is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Why has hold of Rutecki's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rutecki manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Why looking to control but Rutecki is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rutecki is controlling an arm, preventing Why from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Why stands up from mount. Strange move.

Rutecki has managed to clinch.
Rutecki with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Rutecki prevents the takedown attempt.
Why is breathing heavily.
Rutecki lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Why tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rutecki smiles and moves away.
Rutecki misses with a wild body shot.
Why throws a leg kick but Rutecki sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Rutecki doesn't manage to clinch there - Why circles away.

Rutecki gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Why trying to control the position from guard on top but Rutecki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Why stands up and waves to Rutecki to follow him.
Why shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rutecki as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stevie Why. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rutecki doesn't manage to clinch there - Why circles away.
Why takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Rutecki tries to clinch but Why moves out of range.
Why misses with a double jab.

Why rushes Rutecki and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Why fails to pull guard.
Why wants to get back to striking at distance but Rutecki won't allow it.

Why manages to pull guard.
Why is controlling Rutecki's posture.
Why wants to sweep but no luck.
Why trying to control the position.

Why pushes Rutecki off and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stevie Why dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Rutecki clinches up with Why and pushes him back against the cage.
Why wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Why tries to score a body lock takedown but Rutecki shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Rutecki slows down the pace here.
Rutecki lands an elbow just above Why 's eye.
Rutecki lands a damaging elbow.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Rutecki landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Why changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rutecki fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Why has a takedown stuffed.

Rutecki landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Rutecki is breathing heavily.

Why is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Why decides to stand and escape the position.

Why darts in and clinches Rutecki up against the cage.

Why is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rutecki can't fight it off and eventually Why manages to take the fight to the floor. Rutecki looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Why forces his way into half guard.
Why throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rutecki is trying to stand back up but Why is controlling him

Why is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Rutecki is refusing to be controlled, as Why sits in half guard.

Rutecki has hold of Why's hands but Why slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Well, if Why is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Why is tying to control. Rutecki wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Why in particular looking to stall.
Why throwing shots but Rutecki is blocking nicely.
Why sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Why is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rutecki is just riding it out for now. Why eventually gives up the hold.
Why trying to control the action but Rutecki is working from the bottom.
Stevie Why overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rutecki is trying to stand up here but Why is controlling him well.
Why landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Why escapes and gets back to his feet.
Rutecki is looking to clinch but Why is avoiding it.
Rutecki tries a head kick but it misses.

Why bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Why is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rutecki knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Why working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Rutecki can't do much from the bottom here.
Rutecki wants to get back to his feet but Why drags him back down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

and Why counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rutecki won't be happy with that.

Why stands up and beckons Rutecki to his feet.
Rutecki is looking to clinch but Why is avoiding it.
Rutecki closes the distance and clinches up with Why, looking for a takedown. Rutecki pushes Why against the cage but Why circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Why shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rutecki's guard.

Rutecki pushes Why off and gets back to his feet.
Rutecki tries to clinch up but Why circles away and keeps his distance.

Why feints and as Rutecki raises his hands in defense, Why changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Why postures up in Rutecki's guard and throws a big left but Rutecki blocks it.

Why decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rutecki, up you get!

Why decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rutecki is trying to stand.

Why decides to return to a standing position.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rutecki looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Stevie Why is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rutecki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rutecki tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Why swivels and escapes.

Why drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Why trying to control but Rutecki is working from the bottom.

Why stands and steps away. Rutecki gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Why looks for a takedown but Rutecki sprawls well.

and Why counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rutecki won't be happy with that.
Stevie Why has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dexter Rutecki.
Why looking to control but instead Rutecki has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Rutecki wants to get back to his feet.

Why is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Why tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rutecki knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Why is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Why moves nicely into side control.

Why tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Why has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Why scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Rutecki to see if he's OK.
Why trying to control the position but Rutecki is working away.

Why goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Rutecki rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Why's guard! Nice work there by Rutecki!
Rutecki would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Rutecki decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Rutecki gets caught flat footed, as Why shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Why advances position into side control!
Dexter Rutecki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Why stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Why shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rutecki as he jumps to the side.
Rutecki throws a sloppy head kick and Why moves out of range easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rutecki closes the distance but Why moves to the side

and Why counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Why perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Why wants to control but Rutecki is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Stevie Why showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Why, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
