PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stevie Cool (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paolo Da Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cool comes to the cage accompanied by Blind Melon - Skinned. Da Silva has chosen Capoeira do Brasil (Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66) as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Paolo Da Silva told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stevie Cool!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paolo Da Silva!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cool uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Da Silva.

Da Silva gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cool to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Da Silva wants to sweep here but Cool controlling him for the moment.

Da Silva has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cool is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Da Silva.
Da Silva is looking to regain half guard here but Cool keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Da Silva's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Cool decides to stand back up. Cool steps back and let's Da Silva get back to his feet.

Cool closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cool lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Da Silva down.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cool connects with a nice short shot to Da Silva's temple.

Cool slips a nice elbow through Da Silva's hands, connecting with Da Silva's forehead.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Da Silva has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Da Silva there as he acknowledges the shot.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Cool feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well Cool has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
