PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rubens Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charles has chosen Killin in the name of as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcus Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rubens Charles!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Charles scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Charles working the head with strikes.
Jones is trying to get back to half guard.
Jones gets back to half guard.
Jones is not content to let Charles control the position.
Charles might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jones kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Jones is trying to get back to full guard.
Charles not doing much here.
Jones makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jones.

Jones controls Charles momentarily but Charles frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Charles passes into half guard.
Jones is looking to improve his position.
Jones flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Jones trying to control from the bottom.
Charles scoring with strikes to the body and head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jones gets full guard.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Charles from controlling successfully.
Jones wants to sweep here but Charles controlling him for the moment.
Charles wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Charles would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jones is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Charles has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from.

Charles passes into half guard.
Charles looks gassed!
Jones tries to roll over but Charles keeps him under control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A big left from Jones misses.
Charles slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Charles tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones throws a series of punches but Charles avoids them all with ease.
Charles misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Charles throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Rubens Charles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones lands a nice looking kick to the body. Charles takes a step back to recover.
Jones scores with a hook.
The fight stays on the outside here - Charles looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A head kick misses from Jones.
Jones shoots in and drives through. Charles sprawls well.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Charles, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Charles against the cage but Charles circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jones throws a series of punches but Charles avoids them all with ease.

Charles throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jones was covering up waiting for the punch and Charles finishes the takedown easily into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rubens Charles dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Charles shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Jones counter with a right hand.
Charles keeps the fight on the outside.
Charles darts in trying to clinch
and Jones counters with a left to the body.

Jones has Charles up against the cage in a clinch.
Charles is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Jones is keeping busy.
Charles is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Charles gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Jones pulls guard successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Charles wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Jones wants to sweep but no luck.
Charles is stalling in the full guard.
Charles trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Charles wants to pass the guard but Jones is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Charles preventing the sweep.

Jones looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Charles fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.
Charles gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jones counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Marcus Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rubens Charles.
Jones lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Marcus Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Charles has his takedown stuffed

and Jones counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Jones just leaning against Charles, taking a breather.

Charles is trying to break the clinch but Jones is controlling him.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Charles shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jones lands with a hook. Charles tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Jones misses with a wild combination.
Charles tries to clinch up

so Jones counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jones trying to control but Charles is working from the bottom.
Charles is adopting a defensive guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Charles is keeping the position for now.
Charles wants to control but Jones passes easily into half guard.
Charles is looking to control Jones's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Charles avoid being mounted?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Jones dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Jones throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Charles on the side of the head.
Charles fails to land the takedown.
Jones throws a hook but Charles blocks it.
Jones closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Charles fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.
Charles has a takedown stuffed.
Marcus Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rubens Charles.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Charles stuffs the takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones Rushes Charles and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Charles is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Jones Piles on the pressure and Charles crumples to the floor! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:10 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marcus Jones!
