Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Giroe Leon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rick James!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from James. No joy for Leon on that attempt.
Giroe Leon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Leon fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

James has his takedown stuffed

and Leon counters with a takedown into side control.
James can't do much from the bottom here.
Leon throws an elbow but James slips to the side and avoids it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


James gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Leon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for James!

Leon swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and James is now in Leon's guard. A big mistake from Leon there, giving up the dominant position!

James tries to free his leg and advance position but Leon is retaining full guard.

and James counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Leon's guard now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James wants to control from the top but Leon keeps moving.

Leon trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Leon wants to work for an arm triangle but James is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Leon lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Giroe Leon will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


James doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Leon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for James!
James squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Leon cracks James with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Leon raining down shots from the mount!
Leon looking to finish James with some ground and pound. This is bad for James!
Leon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Leon scoring with strikes but James is staying in there.

Giroe Leon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Leon is keen to just control but James is a slippery customer.
James has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Leon is working away from the top position though.
Leon lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Leon is sneakily working for an arm triangle but James sees it coming and defends easily.
Leon wants to lay and pray for a moment but James keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
James misses with a takedown attempt

and Leon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Leon.
Leon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Leon showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Leon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Leon looking to sit in guard and control but James gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that's the end of the fight!
Giroe Leon showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Leon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
