The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rugova gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rugova tries to advance to mount but Shaw denies him.

Rugova thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Shaw tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Rugova easily slips into full mount!
Rugova pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Rugova is landing with some decent strikes but Shaw is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Rugova has hold of Shaw's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Shaw manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rugova has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
